Dragon Ball Project "AGE 1000" Announced

New Original Story and Characters Coming 2027

Dragon Ball announced a new game project titled "AGE 1000" scheduled for release in 2027. The reveal came during the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event on January 25, alongside a teaser trailer shared on the official Dragon Ball Games account, giving fans a first look at the project and hinting at what the new game will offer.

The trailer opens with images and snippets of a brand-new character design by series creator Akira Toriyama. The unnamed character is first shown in a hand-drawn, 2D style before transitioning into a fully rendered 3D model, stepping into what appears to be a combat simulation.

The character defeats a wave of enemies before an unknown figure approaches, and several familiar Dragon Ball characters flash briefly on screen before landing on Goku's silhouette. The teaser ends on the new character as they activate Super Saiyan, serving as the project’s main stinger.

According to official information shared alongside the trailer, AGE 1000 will take place in a brand-new Dragon Ball world featuring original characters designed by Toriyama before his passing, including the never-before-seen protagonist shown in the teaser. Bandai Namco also confirmed that the project will introduce additional unique characters over the course of its story, positioning the game as a fresh setting rather than a retelling of existing Dragon Ball arcs.

No gameplay details or genre information have been confirmed, and it remains unclear whether AGE 1000 will be a fighting game, an action RPG, or another format entirely. More information is expected to be revealed during Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026, scheduled for April 18–19 (PST).

Dragon Ball's Long History in Games

    Image

Dragon Ball is one of the most influential manga and anime franchises of all time, created by Akira Toriyama in 1984. This influence extends to video games as well, maintaining a strong presence in the gaming industry for decades, with titles spanning multiple genres. Popular releases include competitive fighters like Dragon Ball FighterZ and Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, and action RPGs such as Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot and Dragon Ball Xenoverse.

One particularly notable entry is Dragon Ball Online, an MMO released in 2010, which was set in Age 1000 of the Dragon Ball timeline — a distant future where the original cast had become legends and a new generation of fighters took their place. The game featured original lore and character designs supervised by Akira Toriyama, and explored a new era of the franchise rather than adapting established story arcs.

While Bandai Namco has not confirmed any direct narrative connection, Dragon Ball Online took place during Age 1000 in the franchise’s timeline, and the new project adopting the same designation has led to fan speculation that AGE 1000 could explore a similar far-future setting, though whether it will be an MMO, single-player game, or something entirely different remains unknown.
