Digimon Story: Time Stranger is the latest entry in the Digimon games and is the follow-up to the highly popular Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth in 2015. However, fans have discovered a disappointing detail for the game’s console releases.

Based on the recent update on Time Stranger’s Japanese website, the upcoming Digimon RPG will only run at 30fps on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Compared to its PC release, it will have a 60fps frame rate. Moreover, the game will have no HDR support on all platforms. It remains unclear whether the console specs given also apply to PlayStation 5 Pro.

Fans have expressed their disappointment given that the game’s trailers showed promise with its high resolution, so they expected this to run at a higher frame rate, especially on consoles. Over at Reddit, many wondered how the developers came to this decision, given that the game looks to be at the same level graphically with titles that run at 60fps, such as Persona 5.

Some are much more forgiving since the game, similar to its previous titles, is a turn-based RPG, which may have prompted the developers to deem a 60fps frame rate on console unnecessary. Others even jokingly compared it to Pokémon games that usually run at around 30 to 40fps, making Time Stranger technically better.

Regardless, most players are just happy to have another Digimon title coming. With its robust roster of over 450 Digimon that many know and love, and a new cast of characters, Time Stranger looks to take the Digimon Story series up a notch and deliver yet another classic JRPG.

Coming on October 3

During the recent PlayStation State of Play on June 4, Bandai Namco announced that Time Stranger will release on October 3. The release date trailer showcased more of the game’s story elements, which focus on time-travelling and parallel worlds.

Furthermore, some gameplay footage also revealed the game’s updated UI and deeper Digimon customization. Time Stranger’s new ride feature allows players to traverse the game while mounted on certain Digimon. The game looks to have larger-scale maps compared to its predecessors, and will have varying environments.
