Deadlock Changes from Four Lanes to Three in New Major Update

Deadlock has announced its major update in months, changing four lanes into three. Read to learn more about the upcoming changes to the game, and Deadlock’s latest updates.

Deadlock Announced Major Update In Months

Four-lane Map Becomes Three Lanes

Image

Deadlock’s latest major update turns their four lanes into three, simplifying their map structure and other features in the game. Valve posted on Steam on February 26, 2025 the full map rework update details and adjustments to their other mechanics.

According to their post, the redesign will see their four lanes become three, along with "a large range of accompanying map-wide changes regarding visuals, building layouts, pathways, neutral camps, air vents, breakables, powerup buffs, juke spots, mid boss, etc." Deadlock already has a unique approach to the MOBA genre being third-person, but adding a fourth lane to a typical three-lane map may complicate things.

Additionally, changes to farming enemy troopers are implemented, with players not required to last-hit enemies to summon Soul Orbs, making them easier to farm in the early laning phases. The patch notes also stated that there would be improvements in the game’s netcode and its client’s performance.

Vital Update for Deadlock

This update may just be what the game needs to rejuvenate its community to take an interest in playing. In September 2024, Deadlock saw a significant increase in its active player count, reaching its all-time peak of 171,490 players. Since then, Deadlock saw a 90% decrease in player count with around 17,000 playing this past month.

Meanwhile, Valve Developer Yoshi previously stated in Deadlock’s Discord server in January 2025 that the team would adjust their update schedule as their previous two-week cycle made it difficult for them to implement the changes they wanted to reflect. Yoshi explained, "Going forward, major patches will no longer be on a fixed schedule. These patches will be larger than before, albeit a little bit more spaced out, and hotfixes will continue to be released as needed. We look forward to fleshing out the game in the new year."

Deadlock is currently active in development and playtesting, with players able to access the game via friend invite only. There are no official announcements regarding a specific release date for the game. Check out our Deadlock page for more information about the game.
