Capcom's Masachika Kawata and Kei Morimoto, producers of the upcoming Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, commented in a recent interview with Famitsu on how gory, gruesome, and truly "Dead Rising" the upcoming remake will be. Kawata shared that the development team strived to make the bare minimum necessary changes to adapt Dead Rising to society's current socio-political climate.

One theme discussed in particular was Dead Rising's usage of the term "psychopath." In Dead Rising, "psychopath" is used to describe human enemies that exhibit evil or criminal insanity—plain ol' menaces to society.

Given today's evolving societal values and potential sensitivities, there were concerns about potential negative backlash. However, after consulting with legal and marketing experts in both Japan and overseas, the decision was made to retain the term as no problem was seen. "At the very least, we have adapted to the changing values of the world," Kawata stated, acknowledging Capcom's efforts to balance authenticity with societal values.

Like the original Dead Rising released in 2006, the remake will retain its CERO Z rating in Japan, meaning it is suitable only for players aged 18 and older due to its graphic and violent nature. Kawata also noted that Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster will feature more extreme depictions of gore compared to the original.

While decapitation has been excluded to meet rating board standards, the game will still include graphic scenes of zombies' limbs and torsos being severed. "We try to reproduce the original game as much as possible, so please have understanding for certain changes," Kawata added.
