Following the devastating seismic event in the Noto Peninsula in Japan, gaming giants Capcom and Square Enix extended their support to aid those affected by the earthquake that occurred on New Year's Day. Read on to know more.

Capcom and Square Enix Donate to Noto Earthquake Relief Efforts

On January 1, 2024, an earthquake measuring 7.6 in magnitude rocked the Noto Peninsula of Japan resulting in significant devastation to various regions. The catastrophe caused tsunamis with heights reaching 4.2 meters, damaging at least 100 hectares in Suzu City and Noto City.

As of January 9 2024, the local government confirmed 202 deaths in Ishikawa prefecture and at least 521 people were reported to have sustained injuries.

The Japanese Government applied the Disaster Relief Act to 35 cities, 11 towns, and 1 village in 4 prefectures including Niigata, Toyama, Ishikawa, and Fukui to lead the national-level relief operations.

Capcom Supports Noto Peninsula Earthquake Relief Efforts with 120 Million Yen Donation

Capcom Co., Ltd recently announced on their official website that they have donated " relief money totaling 120 million yen" (approximately $827,000 USD).This is to support victims of the recent earthquake tragedy that struck the northwest region of Suzu, Noto Peninsula, as well as to aid in "restoration and rebuilding efforts in affected areas."

Although it wasn’t specified what organization they donated to, the company stated that the relief money was given to "the relevant regional authorities."

Capcom expressed its heartfelt condolences to the victims and will "continue to monitor the status of the disaster and consider further support for relief efforts."

Square Enix Donates 50 Million Yen to Noto Earthquake Victims

On January 9, Square Enix, the company behind the Final Fantasy series, extended its sympathies to those impacted by the earthquake. Published on the Square Enix Holdings website, they wrote:

"We would like to express our deepest sympathies to the victims of the Noto Peninsula earthquake and wish for the earliest possible restoration of the affected areas."

The Square Enix Group will donate 50 million yen (approximately $345,000 USD) through the Japanese Red Cross Society to aid those affected by the disaster and the recovery of the affected areas.

Previously, The Pokémon Company, through the Pokémon With You Foundation, also announced that it donated 50 million yen to the relief efforts of the Japanese Red Cross Society. The company will persist in conducting activities aimed at helping children affected by the disaster, and additional contributions will be directed to support organizations aiding in disaster recovery and reconstruction.
