On January 1, 2024, an earthquake measuring 7.6 in magnitude rocked the Noto Peninsula of Japan that resulted in significant devastation to various regions. The catastrophe caused tsunamis with heights reaching 4.2 meters and damaged at least 100 hectares in Suzu City and Noto City.

The local government confirmed 100 deaths in Ishikawa prefecture. While the Ishikawa prefecture bore the brunt of the damage, the west coast of Japan also witnessed numerous injuries.

"The biggest challenge for us is the access. Most disastrous areas are difficult to reach because of the rocks on the roads and landslides caused by the rain and the aftershocks," according to Musubi Yata from the Japanese Red Cross Society. Reaching these disaster-stricken zones and carrying out relief efforts remain a challenge. (via BBC)

In response to the crisis, Japan allocated 4.74 billion yen from budget reserves (equivalent to $34 million USD) to provide assistance to the victims and aid in the recovery process. Visit the Pokémon With You Foundation's official website to learn more about the company's relief efforts.
