Borderlands 4 Listing Shows Feb 27 Release on Switch 2
Almost 4 Months Delayed, Now Expected to Arrive Next Month

Borderlands 4 developer Gearbox Software has yet to confirm an official release date for the game's Switch 2 edition, but a product listing on Portuguese retailer GamingReplay suggests an imminent announcement. Following a delay from its original October 3, 2025, launch, the looter shooter may hit the Nintendo console on February 27.
On GamingReplay's website, Borderlands 4 will seemingly release as a Game Key Card on February 27, 2026, at €69.99, or roughly around $80 when converted to USD.
Last September, less than a week before the scheduled Switch 2 launch, Gearbox announced an indefinite delay for Borderlands 4 on the console. Citing the importance of cross saves and their commitment to delivering "the best possible experience to our fans," they opted to dedicate "additional development and polish time" after a thorough deliberation.
Notably, Borderlands 4 drew flak from players due to its disruptive PC performance. Upon its Steam release on September 12, 2025, reviews immediately reported poor optimization, including bugs, crashes, and stuttering. The issues became prominent among players, despite the well-received gameplay and Metacritic score of 81.
It can be recalled that Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford received backlash for his responses to player complaints regarding optimization issues last year. On a Twitter (X) thread, he once told a fan to "get a refund from Steam" if they are unhappy with the game.
Player Expectations for Switch 2 Port are Low

On Reddit and Twitter (X), players are showing less optimism about Borderlands 4 on Switch 2, regardless of the veracity behind the reported release date. Given their mostly unsatisfactory experience with the looter shooter—not only on PC, but also on PS5 and Xbox—fans are already tempering expectations of the Switch 2 version running smoothly.
In addition, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney previously explained why games made on Unreal Engine 5, such as Borderlands 4, struggle with Switch 2 optimization. During the Unreal Fest 2025 last August in Seoul, South Korea, he shared that the fault falls on "the sequence of the development process," not the engine itself.

"Many development studios create their games based on high-end hardware specifications, and only perform optimization and low-end device testing during the final stages of development," Sweeney said, clarifying that optimization should take place before the "full-scale content building begins."
Additionally, he mentioned two solutions for this problem: enhancing Unreal Engine's built-in support and strengthening developer education by raising awareness that "optimization must happen early."

Meanwhile, Gearbox announced a new DLC Vault Hunter coming in the first quarter of 2026. The former dealer-bot, C4SH, will join the cast of Borderlands 4, with the Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned Story DLC.
Borderlands 4 is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a Switch 2 release coming soon. To stay up to date with the latest information about Borderlands 4, check out our article below.
