Ransomed.vc Claimed to Have Successfully Launched Ransomware Attack on Sony
Stolen Data Threatened to be Sold
According to a report by Australian cybersecurity publication Cyber Security Connect, a ransomware group going by "Ransomed.vc" claimed to have successfully launched a ransomware attack on "all Sony systems". The group is said to have originally posted the details of the hack on both its regular internet site and its dark web site.
Ransomed.vc showed supposed proof of the hack by presenting screenshots of an internal log-in page, internal PowerPoint presentation outlining test bench details, and Java files. Additionally, the ransomware group posted a file tree of the entire leak, with seemingly less than 6,000 files. However, the cybersecurity publication deemed the proof as "not particularly compelling information on the face of things".
The ransomware group’s claims are currently unverified. Ransomed.vc is looking to sell the allegedly stolen data, claiming that Sony had refused to pay. The group has not listed a price and it is presumed that the data will be published after which they will report GDPR and Data Privacy violations against Sony.
Sony Currently Investigating the Situation
IGN had reached out to Sony regarding the claimed breach and reported that Sony are currently investigating the situation and that they do not have comments at the time. However, it does seem like Sony is not following the hacking group's demands.
