Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven is a full 3D remake of the fifth entry in the SaGa series, the groundbreaking 1993 Super Famicom title Romancing SaGa 2. It was first released on October 24, 2024 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and Epic Games. The game was then launched on Nintendo Switch 2 on July 32, 2025, then on Xbox Series X|S on September 25, 2025.
The game is set in the world of Varennes, where the player takes on the role of the Emperor, beginning with Leon, after the Seven Heroes—once saviors—return as vengeful villains, leading to the main conflict of defending and expanding the Empire across successive generations of rulers.
It has a non-linear, open-world structure, defined by the Imperial Succession system, where the death or abdication of an Emperor triggers a time-skip, and a new protagonist is chosen from various classes, inheriting the predecessors' skills via inheritance magic. The game features the Glimmer system for learning new abilities mid-battle and the new Timeline battle system with United Attacks, which allows players to strategically chain party members' attacks for massive damage.

It involves the player's current Emperor completing non-linear quests in a Free-Form Scenario System, which contributes to a hidden Event Point tally that eventually triggers a Time Skip to the next generation.
Each new Emperor inherits the previous generation's collected Formations, Imperial Standing (global skill levels), and registered Techs and Spells, ensuring continuous power growth. Skills are learned via the Glimmer system for weapon techniques or post-battle for magic, requiring strategic development rather than simple grinding.
