⚫︎ CyberConnect2 has just revealed the official teaser trailer for .hack//Z.E.R.O., marking the first .hack game to hit the shelves in more than a decade. Released through the game's official YouTube channel, the new trailer did not feature any gameplay, release dates, or release platforms.
.hack//ZERO Overview
.hack//Z.E.R.O (pronounced Dot Hack Zero) is a recently announced action-adventure RPG, and CyberConnect2’s latest addition to the .hack game series, following the original four-game series for the PlayStation 2, which includes .hack//Infection, .hack//Mutation, .hack//Outbreak, and .hack//Quarantine.
As the fifth mainline entry to the .hack series, and the first .hack game since 2003, .hack//Z.E.R.O also serves as the series’ unofficial revival under CyberConnect2’s sole development. Confirmed to take place 10 years after the events of earlier series entries, .hack//Z.E.R.O will show greater focus on real-world drama, unleashing the IP’s depiction of the real world to broader lengths.
.hack//ZERO Gameplay
Although the particulars of .hack//ZERO’s mechanics are yet to be revealed, an interview with CyberConnect2 CEO Hiroshi Matsuyama has revealed that the game will retain the .hack IP’s action-adventure RPG roots, featuring both action and adventure elements across a newly refreshed "The World".

⚫︎ In earlier entries of the .hack franchise, the "real world" outside the in-universe MMORPG was primarily depicted through minimalist interfaces, such as in-game emails and simulated web browsers. This streamlined approach reflected production budget limits and publisher constraints at the time.
⚫︎ .hack//Z.E.R.O. is the first mainline .hack title developed and published independently by CyberConnect2. Earlier installments were created in partnership with Bandai Namco Entertainment as publisher, though the new project was produced with the company’s official approval to use the intellectual property.
⚫︎ The soundtrack of .hack//Z.E.R.O. is composed by Taro Hakase, a prominent Japanese violinist. His previous video game contributions include work on Final Fantasy XII as well as earlier titles in the .hack series.
