MS Gundam Battle Operation 2 Gets Mixed Reviews on Steam After Early Release

Some Players Put Off By Application Data "Error"

Even before it officially goes live, the Steam version of Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 2 already has mixed reviews on Steam. That's after several players expressed disappointment after finding that the game was already available to play, but its servers wouldn't be up until next week.

As of Thursday evening, Steam users can already download the free-to-play team-based robot shooter and even launch the game. But they will only be met with an error message that says "Unable to apply application data". Because of this, several users took to the game's review page to express their frustration by dropping "Not Recommended" reviews.

However, both the official MSGBO2 Twitter and the game's Steam page have already said that the game would be fully available between May 30 and the 31st. The "Unable to apply application data" error happens whenever MSGBO2 players get the latest version of the game, but the servers haven't been updated with that data yet.

The game was made available on Steam so players could pre-download it ahead of the official release date. But typically, a game on Steam would be still locked until then to make sure that everyone gets to play it at the correct time.

Players Call on Others To Not Review Bomb MSGBO2 Over Early Release

Game Goes Live By May 31, 2023, 1 a.m. EST

Because of the reviews, several players have called on others to stop giving MSGBO2 "Not Recommended" reviews on its Steam page, and have also begun posting the official release dates on the game's "Discussions" page.

As of this writing, the official MSGBO2 Twitter, the game's Steam page, and the game's publisher Bandai Namco have yet to make an official statement about these developments.

MSGBO2 promises intense online robot action, featuring mobile suits from the Gundam franchise's Universal Century. Players can engage in up to 6 vs. 6 online battles set on land or in space, and connect with players around the world at the game's Base Camp.

The game was originally released in 2018 for the PlayStation 4 and then in 2021 for the PlayStation 5.
