The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Gameplay
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is an open-world, third-person action-adventure game where you, as Link, are tasked with exploring the vast Kingdom of Hyrule to regain your lost memories. Armed only with what he can scavenge, Link embarks on a journey to uncover the truth while gathering the resources needed to survive.
The Sheikah Slate
A mysterious tablet with a glowing center, the Sheikah Slate serves as a versatile tool and menu system. It allows Link to:
⚫︎ Check the map and mark locations.
⚫︎ Access the in-game camera.
⚫︎ Solve puzzles and navigate dungeons.
⚫︎ Manage items, equipment, and more.
Exploration and Travel
Hyrule is filled with towers, shrines, villages, and stables, waiting to be discovered. You can traverse the land by glider, horse, or even by water. The glider allows for airborne exploration, while horseback riding lets you cover vast distances efficiently.
On your journey, you'll scavenge materials, hunt animals, and gather ingredients to craft weapons, cook meals, and prepare for survival.
Combat and Equipment
The world is brimming with enemies that will test your combat skills. To succeed, you’ll need to lock on to foes, learn their attack patterns, and use an array of weapons such as swords, axes, bows, hammers, and even sticks. Armor isn’t just for aesthetics—many outfits grant specific benefits, like protection from extreme weather conditions.
Rune Abilities
Early in your adventure, you’ll unlock Rune Abilities by completing four ancient shrines. These abilities allow you to manipulate your environment in creative ways:
⚫︎ Magnesis: Lift and move metal objects as if they were magnetized.
⚫︎ Stasis: Freeze objects in time, allowing you to strike them and build up kinetic energy for later movement.
⚫︎ Cryonis: Create pillars of ice on water surfaces for traversal or puzzles.
⚫︎ Remote Bombs: Summon and detonate bombs to clear obstacles or damage enemies.
⚫︎ Amiibo Rune: This feature allows you to scan amiibo figures. Regular amiibos provide random items, while Zelda-related amiibos summon treasure chests containing exclusive items such as costumes, weapons, or even animals like Wolf Link.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Story
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Plot
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild begins with Link awakening from a deep slumber that has lasted for 100 years. Guided by a mysterious voice, he discovers the devastated land of Hyrule, once a thriving kingdom now ravaged by a catastrophic event. The kingdom lies under the looming threat of Calamity Ganon, a dark force that has taken control of Hyrule Castle. Link soon learns that the voice guiding him belongs to Princess Zelda, the rightful ruler of Hyrule, who has been trapped in a battle to contain Ganon's power.
With no memory of his past, Link sets out on a journey to reclaim his lost memories, grow stronger, save Princess Zelda, and ultimately defeat Calamity Ganon. Along the way, he must navigate the ruined world, seeking out allies, battling powerful enemies, and restoring ancient technology that may hold the key to saving Hyrule.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Characters
Link
Link, once a valiant knight and the trusted guard of Princess Zelda, was gravely wounded during the second Great Calamity. Following Princess Zelda's orders, Purah placed him in the Slumber of Restoration inside the Shrine of Resurrection to heal his injuries. After 100 years, Link awakens to find Hyrule in ruins. The Slumber of Restoration has caused him to lose his memories, and he now embarks on a quest, guided by a mysterious voice, to recover his past and save the kingdom once again.
Zelda
Zelda, the princess of Hyrule and daughter of King Rhoam Bosphoramus Hyrule, was a scholar at heart, deeply curious about Hyrule's history and its ancient technologies. Her studies led her to discover the Guardians and the Divine Beasts, powerful relics of the past. Inherited from the Goddess Hylia, Zelda possessed a dormant, divine power within her, though it did not awaken easily.
As Calamity Ganon’s return grew imminent, and after her father and the four champions fell in battle, Hyrule suffered great losses. In desperation, Zelda instructed Purah to place Link into the Slumber of Restoration, believing he was their only hope. While Zelda managed to contain Ganon with her power, it was weakening. Now, she needs Link to awaken and help her finally defeat the looming threat.
Calamity Ganon
Calamity Ganon is the primary antagonist of Breath of the Wild. Ten thousand years prior to the events of the game, Ganon appeared and attempted to destroy the world, only to be defeated by the Divine Beasts. However, after a long period of dormancy, Calamity Ganon has returned, seeking to conquer Hyrule and bring ruin to the kingdom once more.
