Tales of Xillia Remastered Gameplay
Combat in Tales of Xillia Remastered remains largely unchanged. It still runs in real time on a 3D arena. Players control one character directly while other party members act under AI with player-set instructions. Aside from the basic functions like moving and dashing, combat also involves standard attacks and Artes, which are special attacks that consume Technical Points (TP). Many actions are also gated by an Assault Counter (AC) that limits consecutive actions. Battles occur immediately when players encounter enemies on the field map and resolve once all foes or all party members reach zero HP.
The battle system centers on the Dual-Raid Linear Motion Battle System, which lets players link the active character with one supporting partner at a time to gain passive benefits and to charge a Linked Artes Gauge. When conditions are met, they can perform Linked Artes and, if the gauge is full, trigger Over Limit. This grants unlimited AC for its duration, makes the user immune to stagger, and allows chaining of multiple Linked Artes for combos. Support skills trigger under certain linked conditions and alter how a linked partner assists the leader in offense or defense.
Players can switch which party member to directly control on the fly, and many combos are built by alternating control between characters mid-attack to extend strings. Directional inputs alter basic attack patterns with contextual combo routes.

Character growth uses the Lilium Orb, a hex-web of nodes that grant stat increases and new skills. Leveling grants CP to spend on adjacent nodes to shape builds. Equipment and consumable affect performance in battle, and the Grade Shop (and DLCs in the remaster provide additional items/skills accessible through progression.
Outside combat, players navigate a field map with a fully rotatable camera, which is a departure from earlier Tales titles’ that had fixed camera angles. Encountering enemies on the field transitions to the battle screen. The remaster also adds convenient features such as skippable cutscenes and skills, enhanced toggle options for movement speed and camera distance, and more.
Tales of Xillia Remastered Story

Humans and elemental spirits used to coexist in equilibrium. Humans make wishes to spirits, granting them power, while spirits sustain themselves through these human hopes and mana. This harmony, however, is disrupted by the discovery of the Lance of Kresnik, a weapon built using spyrix technology that absorbs spirit life to channel mana, threatening the balance of the world.
Players begin the story by choosing one of two protagonists—either Jude Mathis, a medical student, or Milla Maxwell, who claims to be the human incarnation of the Lord of Spirits. Their separate perspectives offer different narrative entry points. Jude confronts the moral weight of witnessing the technology firsthand, while Milla seeks to safeguard spirits from destruction.
Fleeing from the military forces determined to wield the Lance’s power, Jude and Milla are reluctantly joined by allies—including a mercenary named Alvin, a shy orphan girl, and a noble’s butler—forming a group pressed into uncovering the Lance’s secrets and protecting Rieze Maxia from its potential devastation.
