Split Fiction Gameplay

Split Fiction is a cooperative action-adventure game designed exclusively for two players. The core gameplay revolves around navigating through levels that seamlessly blend science fiction and fantasy elements, which reflect the contrasting writing styles of the two protagonists, Mio and Zoe. Players must work together to solve puzzles and overcome obstacles that require coordination and communication. Each player controls one of the protagonists, and the game utilizes a split-screen perspective to ensure both players have a clear view of their character’s actions and surroundings.

Each level introduces distinct abilities for Mio and Zoe, and these are necessary for the two to solve puzzles and overcome obstacles. For instance, in one level, Mio and Zoe might encounter dragon eggs that hatch into helpful companions. These hatchlings can be used to solve platforming challenges, such as gliding across gaps. However, as they grow, the dragons evolve, gaining new abilities like rolling into balls and breathing acidic substances. In another world, the duo will make use of a gravity katana and a laser whip to fight robot enemies and conquer platforming challenges.

In addition to the main storyline, Mio and Zoe will encounter 'Side Stories'—anomalous events triggered by their shared presence within the simulation. These glitches manifest as portals, each representing an attempt by the simulation to reclaim fragments of Mio and Zoe's unfinished childhood creations. These portals transport the duo into bizarre and unpredictable scenarios.

In one Side Story, they might find themselves scaling a mountain inhabited by giants, while another could involve a comical misadventure as they transform into pigs and uncover the secrets of sausage-making.

The Friend’s Pass feature allows one player who owns the game to invite a friend to join the experience for free, this, combined with cross-platform play across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, makes the game accessible to many.

Split Fiction Story Plot

Split Fiction follows the intertwined narratives of two authors, Mio and Zoe, who become ensnared within a simulation that merges their distinct literary worlds. Mio, a pragmatic and analytical science fiction writer, and Zoe, a passionate and imaginative fantasy novelist, are initially strangers. They are brought together when they reluctantly agree to collaborate with Rader Publishing, a tech company promising to revolutionize reading by using their stories in a new product capable of simulating immersive worlds for readers. Mio, ever the skeptic, sees the potential for innovation but also feels that something wrong is happening, while Zoe, more idealistic, is excited by the prospect of bringing her fantastical creations to life.

However, a scuffle between Mio and the people Rader Publishing accidentally pushes her to Zoe’s simulation, and this causes their stories to overlap, trapping both authors inside their sci-fi and fantasy creations. As Mio and Zoe strive to reclaim their stories and return to reality, they confront not only the dangers of this hybrid world but also the ethical dilemmas and ramifications of intellectual property exploitation. They must learn to work together, their contrasting personalities and writing styles clashing and complementing each other, to navigate a world where the boundaries between fiction and reality are increasingly blurred, and where Rader Publishing's greed has unleashed unforeseen consequences.
