Life is Strange: Double Exposure Overview
Life is Strange: Double Exposure (or Double Exposure, abbreviated as LIS: DE) is the fourth main entry in the Life is Strange series, and the seventh game overall for the franchise (including Captain Spirit and the Remastered version). It is the first in the series wherein a main character from a previous entry once again takes center stage as the protagonist, making it an official sequel – once again a first in the franchise. Up until this latest entry, Life is Strange was an anthology series.
Double Exposure sees the return of Max Caulfield, 10 years after the events of the original game, now a photography artist in residence in the University of Caledon. Within Caledon, Max has grown close with a few key colleagues, including a certain Safi, her current best friend and poet. However, as quickly as Max gains the friendship of Safi, she once again witnesses a tragedy wherein she finds her shot dead without the perpetrator in sight.
Shortly after the events of another traumatic situation, Max’s previous time-rewinding powers have evolved and now allows her to teleport to an alternate dimension where Safi still lives. Using her newfound powers, she must constantly switch between both realities and uncover the mystery of Safi’s death, and prevent her impending one in the reality where she still lives.

Life is Strange: Double Exposure Gameplay
Life is Strange: Double Exposure is a story-driven interactive game where players control the protagonist in a 3rd-person view and interact with the numerous objects and NPCs in a given environment. The special ingredient in the Life is Strange series are the different powers that the protagonists wield that they must utilize to advance their goals. Through their different powers, the series also sometimes act as puzzle and fetch quest games as you try to figure out how to utilize your powers, environment, and the surrounding NPCs to advance the plot.
In this latest iteration of the series, the returning protagonist of Max Caulfield does away with her time-rewinding powers in exchange for reality-hopping powers. She can spot rifts in reality where she can transport herself to an alternate reality where things are entirely different from her original timeline. Aside from teleporting, she can also hone her senses to peek at information and eavesdrop in on conversations from the otherworld.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure Reviews
The Most Divisive Of the Franchise
Life is Strange: Double Exposure has been the series’ most divisive game yet, where critics and users are all scoring it very high or very low. Our reviewers at Game8 gave it an 80/100, citing how though it has great execution, it merely rehashes the story formula of the first game which made it so good, but was not able to stick the landing at the latter chapters.
IGN has bestowed an Amazing at 9/10, citing its excellent writing, stellar character performances, and new powers that are fun to utilize. They state that it is "a worthy sequel to the 2015 original." Meanwhile, TheGuardian, gives it a 3/5, citing great setup and execution, but ultimately falling flat with an ending that is both frustrating but also intriguing where they might take the series next.
On aggregation review sites such as Metacritic has a score of 73/100 from critics, deeming it as an Average game. On the other hand, it has garnered a Generally Unfavorable rating from various users at 4.0/10. The same case goes for, Steam where the majority of users have voted a general Mixed reception. Plenty praise the game for its strengths, but many were also unable to see past the glaring "poorly written, rushed, different storyline that popped up" past the third chapter.
