Sleep Awake Gameplay
Sleep Awake is presented from a first-person perspective, with full-motion video transitions. The player controls the protagonist’s movement through environments that alternate between realistic and surreal visual sequences. These transitions often overlay pre-recorded video sequences atop real-time-rendered scenes to create disorienting effects.
Its gameplay loop centers on survival mechanics tied to insomnia. The player must keep the character awake to avoid The Hush. To remain alert, they must gather natural components, such as specific plants, to craft solutions. These also often involve puzzle-solving. The player encounters various logical challenges. Early hands-on previews report simple setups that escalate into more complex tasks as the game continues.
There are also stealth and chase sequences. Encounters with cultists or paramilitary forces require the player to remain hidden or flee. When stealth fails, chase sequences may trigger, which demands timed escapes through narrow corridors or altered spaces.
Sleep Awake Story
Centuries in the future, humanity is confined to a single, deteriorating settlement known as The Crush, the last city on Earth. In this collapsing society, an affliction called The Hush causes any person who falls asleep to vanish, leaving only an empty shadow behind. Due to this, the citizens are plagued by insomnia and resort to desperate measures, including experimental treatments and cultic practices, in an attempt to ward off this threat.
As Katja, players must endure perpetual wakefulness while attempting to uncover the truth behind the disappearances and the city’s fractured social order. She confronts extremist groups and operates in environments controlled by a paramilitary organization in efforts to maintain order amid anarchy.
