ROBOBEAT is an upcoming roguelike rhythm shooter featuring Ace, a bounty hunter trapped in an ever-shifting musical lair. Read on to learn how it plays, what it’s about, and everything else we know so far.
Everything We Know About ROBOBEAT
ROBOBEAT Story Plot
ROBOBEAT’s story is simple but it more than makes up for this simplicity through its bombastic presentation. You place as Ace, a famous bounty hunter going after your next quarry, the eccentric robot showman Frazzer. It’s not as simple as popping a bullet in his CPU though, as you’ve got a high-BPM techno-playground to fight through before you can take a shot at the robo boss himself.
Shoot, wall-run, and bunny hop to the beat of Frazzer’s goons, but make sure you stay on time because an offbeat shot could spell your doom. Keep it fresh, keep it funky, and keep it moving in ROBOBEAT!
ROBOBEAT Gameplay
ROBOBEAT’s gameplay puts it in the niche category of a rhythm shooter, populated by other titles like Bullets Per Minute and Crypt of the Necrodancer. Your crosshair also serves as your metronome because every hop, skip, and shot must be done to the beat of the music to maximize your damage.
Your enemies also move to the beat but you’re just a hair slower, so you’re going to have to keep moving by grappling onto ledges, wall-running, rocket-jumping, and sprinting around Frazzer’s mansion—all to the rhythm of your tunes of course.
Ace’s arsenal of beat-thumping weapons will accompany your escapade as an orchestra of bullets, rockets, and bearings. The game’s roguelike elements will enhance these weapons and grant you better and better bonuses for keeping in time with the music, though the high-intensity gunplay remains the star of this concert.
But perhaps the most unique thing about ROBOBEAT is that you can choose your own music. Be it a growling, synth-laced dubstep track or Mozart, you can jam out with your guns out in ROBOBEAT’s custom music mode.
