Phantom Blade Zero Gameplay
Phantom Blade Zero is a fast-paced action-adventure RPG with a unique artstyle dubbed as ‘Kungfupunk,’ combining the ancient aesthetics of Chinese Kung Fu and Wuxia films alongside its modern renditions in current pop culture such as Michelle Yeoh and Donnie Yen, all fused with a steampunk core. The resulting product is a dark and gritty fantastical Phantom World where the action is fast, complex, and far from being a soulslike contrary to surface-level glances. It will be a semi-open world with reasonably sized handcrafted zones full of diverse content and activities.
Demo Highlights
On July 13, S-Game released a demo highlight for Phantom Blade Zero that shows a glimpse into the game's fast-paced combat.
Multiple Endings
Phantom Blade Zero Director Soulframe confirmed that the game's main story will go for around 20-30 hours, but can go further depending on players' actions. According to him, the kungfu punk RPG will have multiple endings based on the side quests taken by the players, similar to systems of previous RPGs such as The Elden Ring, The Witcher 3, Mass Effect, and others.
The director also noted that accomplishing the main story as is will lead players to the "bad ending," which is why he encourages fans to be thorough with the game and explore all possible side quests. Furthermore, certain parts of the story will only be unlocked and yield different outcomes according to the items or accomplishments players have at that point.
In total, Phantom Blade Zero will feature 8 different endings. Players will also be guided on whether their decisions on particular sections of the game will affect the ending, as the game will leave clues that will help them reach their preferred outcome.
Phantom Blade Zero Story Plot
Phantom Blade Zero stars Soul, an elite assassin who works under ‘The Order,’ a powerful organization residing in Wulin. However, Soul is framed for a murder he didn’t commit, and is left to take the fall. He barely survived as he escapes captivity, but he’s too gravely injured to survive any further. He then encounters a magical healer who saves him from his inevitable death–with a catch. The cure for his wounds will only last for 66 days, where he would ultimately perish as the days deplete.
Soul embarks on a journey of vengeance as he seeks to uncover who framed him, and in his path stands The Order, as well as the numerous secrets that the land of Wulin holds before his eventual demise.
