To Improve Game Stability and Localizations

ASTRA: Knights of Veda devs FLINT is removing English dubbing support in the game on January 23, 2025, to provide "better game stability and higher-quality localizations." On January 20, the devs announced a Language Support adjustment update to improve localizations and ensure game stability.

Regular maintenance will take place on January 23, and after this, the adjustment will effectively remove support for languages like German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Italian. The devs also maintained support of the following languages: Korean, English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, Thai, and Russian.

Although the developers have retained English language support, they are removing in-game English voiceovers. After the maintenance, "countries outside of Korea will now have their In-Game Voice option set to Japanese." The devs also clarified that these adjustments will not affect players’ "ability to chat in any of the languages support was removed for."

Though the adjustment might leave some fans concerned, FLINT assured fans that they "will continue to do our best to provide better services and experiences for our Masters of the Book."

Other Gacha Games That Removed English Voiceovers

FLINT is not the first to remove English voice-over support from their game. Other gacha titles, such as Square Enix’s War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Yostar Games’ Aether Gazer, and Amazing Seasun Games’ Snowbreak: Containment Zone, have also partially or entirely discontinued English voice-overs.

In May 2024, Square Enix announced that they are removing English voice-overs for future content of War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, starting from Main Story Part 3, Chapter 8, and Another Story Chapter 3, Scene 7. However, the dev giant assured fans they will not remove it for the past chapters, while the newer ones will automatically switch to Japanese voice-overs. This decision was made to prioritize the Japanese language for the future content of the game.

Aether Gazer devs also announced in February 2024 that they are removing the entire English voice-over after the release of the "Crepuscular Cloudsong" version as they "have come across some troubles recently." This is attributed to financial struggles, and they decided to realign resources to improve other aspects of the game, such as gameplay, performance, and future content.

Meanwhile, Snowbreak: Containment Zone devs removed this feature as well in December 2023 "after extensive evaluation of voice-over preferences and consideration of the optimal gaming experience." Starting with Version 1.4., some game content will automatically switch to Japanese voice-over.

Considering these developers' decisions, it seems that most are focused on either language preferences or resource allocation. First, prioritizing the language preferred by most players makes sense, as they are more likely to use that language over others. Gacha games also often release content for years, and paying English voice actors can become quite expensive over time. By reallocating resources, these developers are prioritizing the game's longevity and enhancing aspects that are most valued by players.
