Will Wright’s Proxi uses player memories to shape AI-driven worlds. Read on to learn how it plays, what it's about, and everything else we know so far.
Proxi Gameplay
In Proxi, players input memories in textual form, which the game visualizes as scenes using pre-existing or player-made assets. These memories are organized into a mindmap or timeline, enabling players to create intricate connections between events and emotions. The sentiment tied to each memory influences how it shapes the world, from terrain textures to colors.
Players train AI-driven Proxis, characters that evolve based on the memories surrounding them, and place these Proxis into their terraformable worlds. Memory-based sentiment analysis lets AI respond dynamically, fostering relationships with other Proxis. Proxi also supports collaborative world-building, where players can share and explore others’ memory-driven creations.
Proxi Story Plot
The story of Proxi is tied to the player’s memories and imagination. Rather than following a fixed narrative, the game invites players to construct a personalized story by inputting memories that serve as the foundation of their world. These memories are woven into a dynamic narrative as Proxis interact and form relationships influenced by the emotions and context of the memories provided. While there is no overarching plot, Proxi aims to explore the philosophical aspects of memory, identity, and the connections that shape human experience, leaving the story open to each player’s interpretation.
