Proxi, A Game Of Interactive Memories
Featuring A More Personal Experience
The Sims creator Will Wright has shared more details about his upcoming AI life sim game, Proxi. First announced back in 2018, news about the game was kept under wraps for a long while until a "not-a-trailer-trailer" was revealed last month by its developers, Gallium Studio. It seems Proxi is now set on continuous development as its creator Will Wright appeared on a Twitch livestream by BreakthroughT1D to unveil more about the title.
BreakthroughT1D is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research and strives to eventually find its cure and to raise awareness. With their Twitch channel, they team up with the video game community to raise money for such. Their Dev Diaries interview series is where the hosts will chat with game developers about their T1D connection (if applicable) and their game developing experiences while playing their game or a game they personally love. The most recent episode on the channel featured Will Wright, famous for the hit simulation series The Sims and SimCity.
Wright then gave a more in-depth explanation of Proxi’s central concept. Proxi is an "lAI life sim built from your memories" where players can type in their real-life memories in paragraph form, and then the game will transform the memory into an animated scene. The scene can be edited to one’s liking using the game’s assets to better simulate the memory. With each new memory (called a mem) put into the game, it trains your game’s mind and the memory is put into the player’s "mind world," a 3D environment of hexagons that can be explored and played in.
As the mind world expands, it also gets more populated with Proxies of the player’s friends and family. Memories can be freely arranged on a timeline as well as connected to different Proxies to reflect what was going on and who was present in that memory. Proxies can even be exported into other game worlds, like Minecraft and Roblox!
The game’s aim is making "magical connections with memories and bringing them to life." This time, Wright wanted a more personal experience for players, hence the usage of memories. "I found myself getting continuously closer and closer to the player. Kind of a saying I've lived by, which is that no game designer has ever gone wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players." He laughed: It goes to figure that the more I can make a game about you, the more you'll like it.
Proxi is now up on Gallium Studio’s official website, with platforms soon to be announced.
