ONE. Story Plot
One ~Kagayaku Kisetsu e~ (hereafter referred to as "ONE.") follows Orihara Kouhei’s life as he spends high school with his friends. However, behind the slice-of-life-like facade, Kouhei deals with his troubles as he gradually secludes himself within the "Eternal World." As there is no way to stop the process, Kouhei’s interactions with those around him will be pivotal in influencing the game’s ending.
ONE. Gameplay
ONE. is a traditional visual novel where the entirety of its gameplay revolves around reading text and selecting dialogues. In the strictest sense, it’s not actually a game but more like a piece of literature with interactable elements.

ONE. First Impressions
Here we go, fellow VN gamers (can we say we’re gamers?) One of the true stars of Japanese adult visual novels is making its way to the English-speaking world in an official capacity. As a visual novel, that is.
To give you an idea of just how influential this visual novel is, we can look at the rather popular game company from Japan, TYPE-MOON. Kinoko Nasu, writer of the original Fate series, Tsukihime, Witch on the Holy Night, and Garden of Sinners, credited the PlayStation port of One ~Kagayaku Kisetsu e~ as his inspiration for writing the widely-renowned and beloved visual novel Tsukihime. From there, he, along with his partner Takeuchi Takashi, went on to create some of the most endearing and viral works that are still popular to this day.
In fact, many of the One ~Kagayaku Kisetsu e~’s creators would eventually become the founding members of Key, an esteemed visual novel developer with a star-studded resume of incredible visual novels such as Clannad and Harmonia.
For many players, this remaster will be their first exposure to the story - if we don’t count the adult OVAs. Older enthusiasts may have already read it through the unofficial English translations floating around. And while it may not be the greatest among its peers, it was still the spark that lit the passionate fires of truly legendary visual novels down the road.
Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, the remaster will not have any of the original’s erotic content. Though some may argue that modern readers would no longer be able to appreciate the visual novel in its entirety, extending its reach to the general public will at least allow its story to spread farther than otherwise would be possible. That’s for the best, in my opinion. After all, this visual novel is famed for its story, not its erotica. If the transition from an adult visual novel to a more accessible one is written well, then getting your hands on ONE. will surely be worth its price..
