MARS 2120 Story Plot
You play as Sgt. Anna "Thirteen" Charlotte, who is tasked with an important space mission of investigating why the first human colony on Mars sent a distress signal. Once you arrive, you quickly realize that the situation couldn’t be more terrifying. What we thought was a barren planet with only human inhabitants is actually home to horrific aliens.
The game is set almost a century from now. In this timeline, technology has advanced significantly enough for Sgt. Anna to be equipped with powerful futuristic gear, making her exponentially deadlier than any Sgt. in today’s military. The question is, will her combat proficiency and advanced weaponry be enough for her to take down an entire Martian colony?
MARS 2120 Gameplay
MARS 2120 is a metroidvania with both melee and ranged combat, inspired by classics of the genre like Super Metroid, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and even Guacamelee. Sgt. Anna is extremely proficient in hand-to-hand combat and is an expert with the futuristic firearms available to her. These make up both her melee and ranged movesets. In addition to these, she also has powerful abilities tied to fire, ice, and electricity. Throughout your journey, you’ll be able to find upgrades and learn new skills, making you a bigger threat to the aliens the farther you get in your mission.
Explore Mars’ different biomes and unearth, or should I say, unmars its secrets, all while neutralizing the threats you’ll encounter. You’ll encounter a wide variety of enemies, from alien robots to gigantic monstrosities. Figure out each one’s weaknesses and strategize accordingly.
