Kena: Scars of Kosmora Gameplay
Developed by Ember Lab, Kena: Scars of Kosmora aims to evolve its combat systems while preserving the fluid, cinematic style that defined Kena: Bridge of Spirits. The sequel builds upon the familiar third-person action-adventure foundation of the original, expanding its depth and strategic layers through the introduction of the new Elemental Companion system.
This feature allows Kena to bond with elemental spirit allies across the mysterious island of Kosmora, summoning them during exploration and combat to unleash unique abilities. In the official reveal trailer, she is seen riding a green spirit companion mount and calling upon its power mid-battle, emphasizing how these companions play an active role in both traversal and encounters. According to Ember Lab, players can deepen Kena’s relationship with these animal companions over time and unlock new abilities as their bond grows stronger.
More companions are yet to be revealed, as Ember Lab is saving their announcement for future updates.
Another major gameplay addition is Elemental Infusion. With her staff no longer as powerful as it once was, Kena turns to ancient Spirit Guiding techniques rooted in alchemy to manipulate the elements directly. The trailer teases how these powers can alter the flow of combat, such as freezing enemies in place with ice, adding a new tactical dimension to the game’s melee-focused action.

Kena: Scars of Kosmora Story Plot
Set after the events of Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Kena: Scars of Kosmora follows Kena, now older and more experienced, as she embarks on a journey to the mysterious island of Kosmora in search of a cure for her lifelong affliction. Ember Lab describes the sequel as "an emotional and heartfelt adventure" designed for both returning players and newcomers to Kena’s world.
Early in the game, Kena’s staff is shattered, forcing her to embrace the arcane Spirit Guiding techniques unique to Kosmora. This is where she uses the aid of Elemental Spirit Companions and uses alchemy to manipulate the elements.
The island itself is home to distinct cultures and regions, buried secrets, and a tragic past. While the reveal trailer offered only glimpses of the story, it showcased stunning vistas, ancient ruins, and a world teeming with wonder, hinting at the challenges and mysteries that await Kena on her journey.
