Escape Tartarus and defy Hades with the aid of the Olympians in hopes of reaching the surface world! Read on to learn how Hades plays, what it’s about, and everything else we know so far.
Hades Gameplay
Hades is an isometric action roguelite where you must go through random-sequenced rooms filled with different enemies, all to reach that specific region’s end to fight the boss in order to move onto the next. Players are given choices of which room to enter, where they’re presented with the reward they’ll receive after clearing the room of enemies. They could range from currency, items, or Olympian Boons. Boons are powers granted from the Gods that enhance or change their Attacks, Special Attacks, and Cast. For example, a Zeus Boon placed on one’s Special Attack passively adds a lightning bolt after striking an enemy. Boons can interact with other boons from other Olympians as well, granted powerful Duo boons combining the powers of two gods.
Zagreus will have access to a variety of weapons: a sword, a bow and arrow, a shield, a spear, a pair of fists, and a gun. He’ll be able to upgrade his weapons and unlock new Aspects that add or change specific features and mechanics of the weapon, allowing players to experiment with the vast amount of combinations between weapons, weapon aspect, and the Olympian boons.
Hades Story
Zagreus (or Zag), the son of the God of the Dead Hades, has lived his entire life of godlihood within the underworld, never knowing the surface world nor their supposed powerful family above, the Olympians. Secretly supported by adoptive mother Nyx, the Goddess of the Night, he ventures forth through the regions of the underworld in hopes of reaching the surface. However, Hades forbids this and sends his forces to prevent Zag from escaping. However, with the aid of his mother Nyx, and the multitude of boons he gains from the Olympians who offer their boons to aid him in his battles, he’s determined to break through to the surface.
Even when he’s slain in battle, he merely wakes up once more back in the House of Hades, fully recovered and ready for another bout with the forces of the underworld. No matter how many times it takes, no matter how many times he dies, Zagreus will keep trying.
