Dota 2 Story

Dota 2 Plot

Image

Dota 2 doesn’t have a traditional story as it’s mainly a gameplay-focused player-versus-player experience in the form of a MOBA. What it does have, however, are several item and character descriptions, voice lines, and other media (mainly comics) that the franchise has that implies certain interactions between the multitude of characters available in the game.

Dota 2 Gameplay

Image

Dota 2 is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) where two teams (Radiant and Dire) comprised of five players fight against each other with the objective of destroying the opponent’s Ancient, the central structure of their bases. Players will choose a unique hero from a pool of 126 heroes, each with their own unique set of skills, abilities, and attributes. Over the course of a game, players will have to earn experience points (XP) and gold from killing the opposing team’s creeps, specifically placed neutral creeps, and opposing Heroes. The collected gold is then used to buy items that increase your heroes’ stats and have other functionalities to gain the upper hand against the enemy team.

The map of Dota 2 is made to be rough mirror image of each opposing team’s side separated by a river in the middle. This means that each team’s area consists about the same amount of resources per side (e.g. "Triangle" creep camps, Ancient creep camps on opposite sides, etc.). It is then divided into three lanes (Top, Mid, Bot), each with continuously spawning team creeps that march forward and push towards the opposing side. Each lane contains three towers, which are strategically placed deeper into enemy territory and the third one being placed on the team’s high ground.
