Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector Gameplay

Image

Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector is a tabletop-inspired role-playing game that builds upon the mechanics of its predecessor while introducing several new features and systems. A central gameplay element is the management of a ship, referred to as a Rig. This vessel serves as the player’s home and base of operations, which require regular maintenance and upgrades. Enhancements to the ship allow access to new locations and improved living conditions.

Players must also manage their crew. Starting with Serafin, a fellow escapee and pilot, players can recruit various specialists such as scrappers and engineers. Each crew member brings unique skills essential for undertaking contracts, which range from exploring derelict structure to conducting asteroid surveys.

The game retains the dice-based system from the original, where players roll dice each cycle to determine available actions. Managing Stress levels is imperative; excessive stress can lead to malfunctions that negatively impact dice rolls and overall performance. Additionally, each character class possesses a Push ability that gives advantages during tasks, such as rerolling dice or focusing a single die for a critical success.

Moreover, contracts are multi-cycle, high-risk jobs that players must undertake. Thorough preparation is required for these missions, as players need to manage resources, crew assignments, and adapt to unforeseen challenges to complete contracts successfully and earn rewards.

Exploration within the Starward Belt is non-linear; players have freedom to chart courses between various hubs and interact with various factions and characters. Player choices during contracts impact outcomes that lead to branching storylines.

Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector Story

Image

In Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector, players assume the role of a Sleeper—an emulated human consciousness housed within an artificial body—who has recently escaped from corporate ownership. After rewriting their own governing code to break free from servitude, the Sleeper finds themselves in the Starward Belt, a collection of habitats within an asteroid belt at the edge of the Helion system. Now on the run with a malfunctioning body, a price on their head, and no memory of their past, the Sleeper must secure their future by undertaking various contracts with their crew.

The Helion system is embroiled in a covert war between two massive corporate entities, and the Starward Belt is not immune to the conflict’s repercussions. Refugees, derelict ships, and advanced technologies are commonplace, and the Sleeper must adeptly navigate these challenges as they balance the need for resources with the imperative to remain hidden from those who seek to recapture them.

Throughout the game, players face decisions that influence the Sleeper’s fate and the broader narrative. Choices regarding crew, contracts, and interactions with various factions shape the story’s progression and lead to multiple possible outcomes.
