Naruto x Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections First Impressions
Naruto x Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections is a fighting game set in the ninja world of the Naruto universe with over 130 playable characters, each with their unique moveset and playstyles. The game features a brand new and never-before-seen storyline featuring a new threat to the ninja world and the Fifth Great Ninja War in the Special Story Mode. You can also experience firsthand Naruto’s, Sasuke’s, and Boruto’s storylines from the original series in the History Story Mode.
From the footage we’ve seen in the trailer, it looks like it plays exactly like the previous Storm games, but with twice the amount of jutsus per character and a really big character roster to choose from. Not that it’s a bad thing though as the gameplay in this game series has been extremely fun since the first game came out 15 years ago in 2008. What’s concerning is that a lot of the movesets look exactly the same, and there aren’t really that many new ones. The game isn’t also a "true next gen title" since it’s releasing for both the old gen consoles and the Nintendo Switch. Despite that, the game looks clean and smooth based on the gameplay footage found in the trailers.

Naruto x Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections Story Plot
In Naruto x Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections, you’ll have access to two story modes - History Story Mode and Special Story Mode.
History Story Mode features a storyline about the events of the show, along with cutscenes and the original voice actors from both the English and Japanese dubbed version of the show. Like its predecessors, the cutscenes in the game aren’t really animated, and are more like stylized slideshows of the events in the anime. Quick Time Events (QTEs) are also present and are a core part of the story modes. While QTEs have developed a negative reputation in the gaming community, it makes sense for a game adaptation of an anime, and lets you be part of some amazing scenes from its source material. However, we hope that there’s nothing unnecessarily hard that you’d get stuck because of it. This game mode can serve as a recap for those who want to go over the iconic anime’s storyline again, or as a whole new way to learn about one of the most popular anime shows of all time without watching 700 episodes.
Special Story Mode features a brand new original story about Boruto, and a serious threat to the ninja world. From what we’ve seen in the Special Story Mode trailer, it looks like this game mode will feature the Fifth Great Ninja War. This is very exciting news for Naruto nerds like myself who are always craving for new content. Moreover, whether you love it or hate it, the war arc in Naruto Shippuden featured ultra-large-scale battles that we’ve never seen in the series before, which contained some of the most spectacular and visually stunning scenes in the show. Some scenes in the trailer were very reminiscent of the climax of the Fourth Great Ninja War, so there’s that to look forward to.

Naruto x Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections will feature the same flashy, fast-paced, action fighting gameplay featured in its previous titles. You’ll be able to play as different characters from the anime, each with their own unique moveset and playstyles. Battle solo or with allies that can assist you with their jutsus from the sidelines. Some characters have special interactions and synergies with characters they’re associated with in the show. These special interactions can range from voice lines to special cutscenes for ultimate moves. Moreover, this game features the largest roster of playable characters in a Naruto game, with over 130 ninjas to choose from.
In addition to the complete Naruto storyline being accessible in its story mode, this game is a perfect entrypoint for newcomers because they added in the option for a more simplified control scheme. This will make it so that you can pull off complex combos by repeatedly pushing just one button, and get competitive very easily.
