Everything We Know About The Lord of the Rings (LotR): Return to Moria

The Lord of the Rings (LotR): Return to Moria Story Plot

Image

LotR: Return to Moria is set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s iconic fantasy world. We follow the mythical dwarves of LotR as they embark on new adventures to reclaim their legendary home of Moria during the fourth age of Middle-earth following the canonical events in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and the defeat of LotR’s primary antagonist the Dark Lord Sauron.

Moria, also known as Mines of Moria or Khazad-dum, was an underground kingdom known for being the most famous Dwarven realm. The kingdom is located beneath the expansive mountain ranges of the Misty Mountains. It met its end as the Misty Mountains became increasingly dangerous as orcs and other creatures serving the Dark Lord’s army roamed and settled in the mountains.

The Lord of the Rings (LotR): Return to Moria Gameplay

LotR: Return to Moria will entail delving into procedurally generated mine-like maps that contain dark, deep mountain caverns filled with mysterious things and fun surprises. In the mines, you will be able to find and mine resources used for crafting weapons like hammers and pickaxes, as well as equipment used in exploration like a torch. The deeper down you are in the mines, the rarer the gems and crystals – however, these will be typically guarded heavier by enemy goblins, spiders, and other foes. You must also rebuild the caverns and craft special items and structures using the resources you find. You can adventure alone or band together with up to eight people.

On top of that, you must also keep your dwarf well-fed, well-rested, and sheltered. Game director Jon-Paul Dumont has revealed that food will be a huge part of the game, teasing that having feasts by the fire will be a "big deal" in the later parts of the game. You can also build their own base where they can take shelter. Clearing new locations can unlock grander and more elaborate architecture for your dwelling spaces.
