Until Dawn Movie Releases 2025 with Peter Stormare Reprising Role as Dr. Hill

Plot is Still Kept Under Wraps

Until Dawn's movie adaptation, announced by Sony Pictures at the beginning of the year, has reportedly finished filming and will be released in cinemas in April 2025, a few months ahead of the horror game's tenth anniversary. This is according to Hollywood news outlet The Deadline. The movie stars actors Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Ji-young Yoo, Belmont Cameli, Odessa A’zion, Maia Mitchell, and Peter Stormare, who reprises his iconic role as Dr. Alan J. Hill from the game.

It was reported that director David F. Sandberg, best known for his extensive work on horror short films, has based the movie on a screenplay penned by horror writers Gary Dauberman (The Nun) and Blair Butler (The Invitation). Though the exact contents and plot have yet to be revealed, it has been suggested that the Until Dawn movie adaptation could closely follow the plot of the game with the recasting of Stormare in his role. Moreover, the movie has been described as an "R-rated love letter to the horror genre, centering on an ensemble cast."

Until Dawn was originally released in 2015 for PlayStation 4 and gained acclaim for its immersive and suspenseful storytelling. The game revolves around eight friends brought together at a remote mountain retreat, navigating live-or-die scenarios involving a mysterious killer, cannibalistic wendigos, and more. The success of the game led to spinoffs and sequels, such as Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, The Inpatient, and The Quarry. With the recent Until Dawn remake released for the PC and PS5, Sony has seemingly hinted at a potential sequel. As revealed through a rework of the game's ending and post-credit scene, a voiceover from Dr. Hill has suggested that one of the characters might have his redemption arc in the future.
