John Carpenter’s Toxic Commandos New Trailer Shows Off New Gameplay Details
How Toxic Commando’s Swarm System Works
John Carpenter’s Toxic Commandos just released a three-minute gameplay overview on their official YouTube channel, sharing more details about its in-game systems, most notably with its proprietary "Swarm System." It also unveiled information about what players can expect when it comes to its weapons, vehicles and classes that are pivotal to the four-player co-op experience.
Warhammer 40K Space Marines 2 developers, Saber Interactive, brings their experience from the Terminids in Titus’ adventures to the flesh-eating undead in Toxic Commandos. The gameplay trailer offers brief glimpses of the "Swarm System," where hundreds or even thousands of zombies simultaneously rampaging across its semi-open world, echoing Space Marines 2’s Terminid and Chaos swarms. Hordes of undead crawl through windows and squeeze through cracks, moving like flowing water. Players familiar with World War Z will recognize how these enemies rely on strength in numbers, working together like ants to achieve their goal.

To counter the "Swarm," Toxic Commandos introduces a feature inspired by George Romero’s Dawn of the Dead series: armored vehicles. Players can hop into these vehicles to plow through hordes of undead, leaving internal organs splattered across windshields and doors.
The game features multiple types of vehicles, each with different perks. While Saber Interactive has not shared full details about these perks, the trailer showcases options ranging from standard ambulance trucks that heal to big trucks kitted with decorative horns mounted on their hoods.

Alongside armored vehicles, Toxic Commandos offer 16 unique weapon types to send the undead back where they came from. From shotguns and SMGs to sniper rifles, players have a wide arsenal at their disposal for their undead-filled journey. As with any first-person shooter, secondary weapons like pistols provide a reliable backup, giving players extra firepower when their primary guns run dry.
Playable Characters and Class Progression

Toxic Commandos feature four playable characters that players can select anytime. Walter (Clive Standed), Cato (Omari Hardwick), Ruby (Lucy Martin) and Astrid (Charlet Chung) serve as the game’s main characters. According to the gameplay video, "they are a bunch of criminals hired to clean the undead mess." Together, players fend off hell’s legions with their repertoire of firepower, vehicles, and class-types.
Players can customize their first-person shooter experience by choosing from different classes to tackle the undead threat. The official trailer reveals four classes so far: Strike, Medic, Operator, and Defender. Strike focuses on offense, Medic provides healing support, Operator manages drones and tech, and Defender holds the frontlines with a shield. Each class comes with a skill tree that enhances its potential, offering upgrades such as faster reloads or increased melee damage.
John Carpenter’s Toxic Commandos is set to release on March 12, 2026, for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. The game will feature cross-play at launch, allowing players to team up with up to three others across different consoles. A free demo will also be available starting February 19, 2026.
