Overwatch just dropped a short gameplay footage of its upcoming mobile game. Discover why it is a completely different game and how it fares against the award-winning hero-shooter by Blizzard.
Overwatch Rush is a Mobile Game Set in the Overwatch Universe
Completely Different Hero-Shooter Experience

Blizzard Entertainment just unveiled Overwatch Rush, an upcoming top-down hero-shooter that takes place in the award-winning Overwatch universe. They confirm in a recently released blog post from their official website. The game is still in active development and is an "entirely new game — not a port" that is specifically built for mobile players in mind.
In the same blog post, Blizzard mentioned that the mobile game is being developed by a separate team from Team 4, the development group behind the main Overwatch game. According to Blizzard, the Overwatch Rush team has "deep mobile experience," allowing Team 4 to focus entirely on the core Overwatch experience while the new team works on delivering a completely different take on the Overwatch universe.
This is not the first time Blizzard explored the mobile space before. Popular titles like Diablo: Immortal, despite its initial controversy, serve as a bite-sized Diablo adventure for a growing mobile audience. Other titles, like their free-to-play card game Hearthstone, have also garnered a steady audience of mobile users.
Overwatch Rush currently has no release date, but it is confirmed to be coming to iOS and Android devices. Blizzard has also invited players to join its official Discord servers to stay up to date with future announcements and updates.
Overwatch Rush Gameplay Details
Not much information was included in the blog post, aside from a separate gameplay video showcasing an early playtest build of Overwatch Rush. The almost four-minute video shows two teams of four players competing to take control of a point, similar to the standard King of the Hill modes found in the core Overwatch.
The most noticeable difference compared to the original Overwatch is the top-down camera perspective. The video highlights an overhead view paired with a standard mobile-style UI featuring familiar characters such as Reinhardt, Mercy, Tracer, Reaper, Lucio, and Pharah.

Another detail revealed in the gameplay footage is the introduction of new abilities, including a restorative aura for Mercy and Reinhardt’s Fire Strike, which leaves behind a pool of lava.
It remains unclear whether other Overwatch characters will appear in the game, but since it is still in early development, there is a strong possibility that newer heroes, such as Jetpack Cat, Kiriko, or Domina, could be added later on.
Overwatch Receives Second Major Balance Hotfix

Alongside the reveal of Overwatch Rush, Blizzard Entertainment has also released a new balance hotfix for Overwatch, introducing changes to heroes like Vendetta and Domina in the game’s first season following its major rebranding.
The balance hotfix was not particularly meaty, but it did address some of the community’s biggest concerns regarding overperforming and underperforming heroes. Duelist heroes such as Anran and Emre received buffs to their offensive potential, bringing them more in line with the rest of the Duelist roster. Vendetta, on the other hand, saw a damage reduction, making her less deadly during intense teamfights. Tanks like Domina had their Ultimate resource cost increased, reducing her overall threat on the frontlines.

Support heroes were also adjusted. Jetpack Cat received a much-needed nerf to its melee ability, making the character less dangerous at close range. Meanwhile, Mizuki had the duration of his ultimate ability, Kekkai Sanctuary, extended by one second, improving his effectiveness in teamfights.
Taken together, the reveal of Overwatch Rush mobile entry and the latest balance hotfix have reinforced Blizzard’s ongoing support for their acclaimed hero-shooter franchise.
