Genshin Impact will permanently shut down its servers for PlayStation 4 this April. Find out the complete timeline of the discontinuation process and HoYoverse’s reason for ceasing operations on the platform.
Genshin Impact Shuts Down Services For PlayStation 4
Update Support Ends April 8, 2026

Genshin Impact will officially shut down its PlayStation 4 servers on April 8, 2026, thereby ending support for the platform. This will be the final phase of HoYoverse’s three-step plan to discontinue its services for Sony’s last-gen console.
As announced by HoYoverse on August 6, 2025, sunsetting Genshin Impact for the PS4 will be carried out in three phases: Game Removal, In-Game Purchases Delisting, and End of Update Support. This kicked off with Genshin Impact being removed from the PlayStation Store on September 10, 2025. Players who have previously downloaded the game, though, were still able to access it despite this.

This was followed by the removal of in-app purchases today, February 25, effectively disabling all transactions for Genshin Impact on PS4 via the PlayStation Store and the in-game shop. Finally, on April 8, 2026, HoYoverse will "officially cease all update support for Genshin Impact," which means players will no longer be able to log in to the game on PS4.
It is important to note that after the end of update support, any remaining Genesis Crystals or unclaimed mail rewards purchased from the PlayStation Store can still be claimed by logging in to Genshin Impact in the PS5.
Players Shifting To A New Platform

PS4 players need not worry, as their game accounts remain accessible when logging in on other devices. Genshin Impact is fully cross-platform, allowing fans to play on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, iOS and Android, and PC.
With HoYoverse’s unified account system, Adventure Rank, characters, story progress, and entire inventory are stored on the studio’s cloud servers rather than players’ local hard drives. To ensure a successful migration, Travelers must visit the "User Center" within their in-game account settings on PS4 before the April deadline. By binding their PSN ID to a valid email address, they create a universal login that works across all supported platforms.
Why Shutdown PS4 Services?

HoYoverse opting to cease its operations of Genshin Impact for PS4 is largely due to "limitations related to hardware performance and platform application size." As Teyvat grows with massive new areas like the recent updates in Nod-Krai and the upcoming mainland Snezhnaya, the console struggles to render complex environments and handle the fast asset-streaming required for an open-world game
Furthermore, the total storage footprint of Genshin Impact has expanded drastically over the years. Managing the game’s file size on the PS4’s architecture has become increasingly difficult, which limits the development of the game.

By discontinuing the PS4 version, HoYoverse can implement more advanced graphical features and gameplay mechanics in future updates that the older hardware simply cannot support. This includes faster loading times, more high-definition and populated areas, and better features that could expand the game’s life for years to come.
While specific data regarding the Genshin Impact player base on PS4 remains undisclosed, Sony’s FY25 Business Segment Presentation confirms that a substantial number of gamers continue to rely exclusively on the last-gen console. Regardless, Genshin Impact players have plenty of options on which platform they wish to continue their adventure in the world of Teyvat.
