2,360 Games Released on Switch in 2023
According to data from Chicago-based consumer behavior advisory company Circana, the Switch saw the launch of 2,360 game titles during 2023. The substantial number of game releases on the Nintendo Switch can be attributed to its extensive install base of approximately 116 million users globally as of June 2023 (via Statista).
This milestone is a testament to the ongoing popularity of Nintendo's handheld console, even as it approaches the end of its lifecycle. However, despite the Switch's remarkable performance, Valve's digital platform, Steam, outshone it in terms of sheer volume. Steam released over 14,500 titles in 2023.
While it faces stiff competition, particularly from digital platforms like Steam, the eShop currently boasts nearly 12,000 pieces of software in its extensive library available to Nintendo Switch users.
According to a report released by Japanese video game magazine Famitsu, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (TotK) was Japan's best-selling game in terms of physical sales. On the software sales, TotK remained first with sales of 1.93M units in Japan. According to Nintendo's Financial Results Q1 Fiscal Year, TotK sold 18.51 million units overall, which not only significantly increased software unit sales, but also drove hardware sales.
