Star Wars Outlaws is getting a major update this November, as announced by new Creative Director Drew Rechner. Read on to learn more about the update's focus and what Rechner had to say.

Star Wars Outlaws Title Update 1.4 Releases This November 21st

Star Wars Outlaws’ New Creative Director Details Three Areas of Focus

In their first major post-launch update for Star Wars Outlaws, Ubisoft’s new Creative Director, Drew Rechner, shared plans to elevate the game’s mechanics and player experience, responding to fan feedback on key areas like combat, stealth, and controls. According to the developer’s post, their "biggest update yet" will arrive on November 21 alongside the game’s debut on Steam and first DLC.

The developer update kicks off with a genuine thank-you from Rechner to the Outlaws community for their enthusiasm and support, from "fan arts, comments, and videos you’ve created around the game." But beyond these, Rechner, in his first message to the community as Creative Director, acknowledges the valuable constructive feedback from players. "Thank you for sharing with us and helping us make the game even better," he said.

With three title updates already rolled out, Massive Entertainment is tackling some of the biggest community concerns head-on. These patches have already addressed bugs, improved mission dynamics, and adjusted the speeder camera and collision for a smoother ride across desert planets and lush jungles alike.

While Game8 awarded the game a score of 90, praising it as an exceptional game that does justice to the Star Wars franchise, Rechner believes there's still room for improvement. In their Developer Update, he identified three key areas that could "improve the game even further."

First on Massive's radar for improvement is the combat system. Many fans have criticized the game's combat as feeling shallow and clunky at times. By "rewarding your tactics and precision," as Rechner puts it, the developers want to elevate battles. Based on the developer's update, upcoming enhancements aim to make combat more engaging, especially for players who love to experiment with creative solutions to challenges.

The second priority on the roadmap is stealth. Rechner makes it clear: stealth is "not only about improving the readability and consistency of enemy detection, but also providing choice in how you want to approach each encounter." A common complaint among players is that the game's stealth mechanics are overly restrictive, limiting the player's options and often resulting in immediate failure if detected. Massive aims to address these issues by removing these restrictions and giving players more ways to get out of sticky situations.

The development team will also tackle an area where seamless movement is paramount: "character controls." This includes "improving the reliability of cover, increasing the responsiveness of climbing and crouching, and generally improving the consistency of the controls overall." The improved controls promise to make interactions with the game world smoother and more satisfying, whether players are sprinting for cover or scaling precarious cliffs to avoid an enemy.

On Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card DLC and Future Updates

The first developer update builds up to the anticipated Title Update 1.4, set for release on November 21st. In addition to all the promised gameplay refinements, Title Update 1.4 will coincide with Outlaws’ launch on Steam and will include the first major story expansion, Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card. This is the first of several planned story packs that continue the adventures of Kay Vess and her trusty companion, Nix. In Wild Card, they will face off against Lando Calrissian in a high-stakes Sabacc tournament.

More refinements is on the horizon with Story Pack 2, A PIrate’s Fortune, slated for release in Spring 2025. Former Creative Director Julian Gerighty has confirmed in an interview with Game File back in September that both Wild Card and A Pirate’s Fortune will be "fairly meaty."

Players can also take solace in the fact that Massive is listening to community feedback. Rechner credits this as vital to Outlaws’ continued growth, as the team is committed to making each player feel like a true outlaw in a galaxy where the only limits are those you set yourself. As Rechner aptly put it, "There’s never been a better time to experience the Outer Rim."
