S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2.: Cost of Hope Story Expansion Revealed
Continuing the Second S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Trilogy

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl will receive its first major DLC with the announcement of the Cost of Hope Story Expansion during the March 2026 Xbox Partner Preview showcase. Described as a "large expansion that’s worth your wait" Cost of Hope marks the 2024 survival shooter’s first injection of new content since its initial release.
According to the game’s developers on Xbox Wire, Cost of Hope began development in late 2024, when the base game was originally released. Although released as a DLC rather than a standalone title, Cost of Hope is intended to "[be the] middle chapter of this second trilogy", mirroring the three-game saga spread across the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chornobyl (2007), and its two follow-up titles, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky (2008), and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Prypiat (2009).

In that vein, a second, yet unrevealed and untitled story DLC has been confirmed for a future release. Intended to be the final title in the second S.T.A.L.K.E.R. trilogy, this title will round out "a new large story within the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. saga", and will be revealed "when the time is right."
New Regions, Characters, and Quests Await in The Zone

The game’s developers have revealed some details about the Cost of Hope Story Expansion ahead of its release, including two new zones for players to explore and new quests awaiting players in The Zone.
The greatest detail revealed about Cost of Hope is its story, which will run parallel to the base game’s main campaign and can be opted into by following a mysterious new signal popping up on the player’s PDA.
Though new characters were promised for the DLC’s "dozens of hours" of story content, the base game’s protagonist, Skif, remains the playable character, although he will be encountering new friends and foes in a narrative centered around the new D4 Treaty holding previous enemy factions together.

The two new regions coming to Cost of Hope will be the long-awaited parts of The Zone previously uncharted and inaccessible to all stalkers: The Iron Forest and the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
Although no specific details about these regions have been revealed yet, the game’s devs promise dozens of new locations, a central hub, new quests, and new activities within each one.
Coming to Supported Platforms and Xbox Play Anywhere in Summer 2026

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl’s Cost of Hope story expansion will be available on PC (Steam, Epic Games, GOG, Microsoft Store), PlayStation 5, and the Xbox Series X|S sometime in Summer 2026.
An official release date has not been revealed yet, but the devs have confirmed that both the expansion and the base game will be supported by the Xbox Play Anywhere service, meaning the game can be accessed from PC and Xbox at no additional cost.
