Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is turning one the only way an Ultramarine knows how: with heavy weaponry and more Chaos to crush. Read on to learn more about what Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment have confirmed for the update so far.
Space Marine 2 Gets a Big September Update and Year 2 Content
New PvP and PvE Missions, Enemies, Maps, Weapons, Class, and More!

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is approaching its first anniversary, but the Emperor’s work is never done. Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment have confirmed that the co-op shooter is only getting bigger, with a "large-scale update" set to launch in September and another full year of free and paid content officially locked in. This is mainly due to the fact that much of the content originally slated for Update 9 has been pushed to Update 10, meaning Update 9 will primarily focus on balance changes.
In a recent community update on Steam, Saber and Focus laid out plans for what’s next as they prepare to keep Space Marine 2 up well into 2026. "We’re happy to announce that a second year of both free and DLC content included in a newly yearly season pass is on the way!" the studio wrote. "Expect new PvE missions, enemies, weapons, and… more."
And "more" appears to be doing some heavy lifting here. Even though development for Space Marine 3 has officially started, the teams' teasing of things to come in their post suggests they plan to fulfill their promise of continued support for Space Marine 2, though many specifics remain under wraps.

The upcoming 10.0 update, planned for September, is the centerpiece of the anniversary celebration and promises a substantial batch of new features. Chief among them is a PvP mode, though fans will have to be patient. The mode was initially slated for the upcoming 9.0 update this summer, but has now been bumped to September.
Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment haven’t shared every detail yet, but the new mode appears to pit Chaos against Chaos in an entirely new map instead of the usual "Loyalist VS Chaos like in regular PvP" Players will also be able to control the Helbrute, one of Space Marine 2’s boss enemies, alongside "new Chaos armours" and the Power Axe, complete with its own moveset and execution animations. So far, they have only shown a work-in-progress model of the said weapon.
Also on the horizon is the arrival of a new playable class: the Techmarine. Though Saber and Focus have opted not to share more than this for now, it’s speculated that this class, which is known in Warhammer 40k lore as the engineers and battlefield mechanics of the Adeptus Astartes, could focus on repairing machinery and bolstering defenses mid-fight.
They did confirm, though, that the Techmarine class will be available for both PvE and PvP modes. Eager players can expect more details in upcoming community updates, likely arriving later this July and August as the studio prepares for the big September patch.

Looking ahead, players can expect a steady rollout of content throughout Year 2. The new season pass will include both free updates and premium DLC and build on the model Saber established in the game’s first year.
Though there’s no firm release date for Update 9.0 yet, the studio suggests it should land sometime this summer. More specifics about the 10.0 update, the Chaos PvP mode, and the Techmarine class are expected to drop in upcoming community posts throughout July and August.
