Rhysida, the ransomware group that demanded $2 million for the data of Insomniac, released the stolen data to the public after their supposed deadline had passed. The ransomware gang posted on their leak site saying: "Not sold data was uploaded, data hunters, enjoy" and it amounted to 98% or 1.67 terabytes of stolen data. Based on their leak, it seems that 2% of the data was sold to a bidder and was not released to the public.

The giant leak contained sensitive information from Insomniac Games like game road maps, budgets, gameplay footage, and most of all, personal information of their staff from the company’s HR documents. Documents like credit card information, passport numbers, and more were compromised due to the recent cyber attack.

Among the data that spread contained information about their previously teased Wolverine game, wherein Alpha gameplay and development footage was shown. While there was only little officially known information on the game, Insomniac Games developer, Bryan Intihar, teased the game to be an R-rated game that will take place in the same universe as the Spider-Man series. Early gameplay footage, road maps, and even marketing images were among the leaked material.

The Internet Divided On The Leaks

Fans, developers, and publishers quickly took to Twitter (X) to express their support and sympathies for Insomniac Games. Many expressed their disdain for the hackers that leaked personal information. Remedy Entertainment, the creators of Alan Wake 2, said the data breach was "disgraceful and shameful". Jordan DeVries, the UI and UX lead of Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi team, also expressed his support, describing it to be "gutting" and comparing the ordeal to a "f**king nightmare". He also then expresses his sympathies saying "My heart goes out to the unbelievably talented devs at Insomniac."

However, some people also noted the potential bias that the gaming community had with regards to the community’s reaction to the Insomniac leak. Many of the leaks that happened to Capcom and GTA 6 didn’t receive this much support as they should’ve. Senior Editor of The Verge, Tom Warren, points out that "something clearly feels different this time around, and I think it’s because it’s Insomniac." He then adds that "They’re beloved developers that create awesome games, and there’s a very real emotional attachment to that and a desire from many to not harm them."

Warren then points out that he hopes that this ordeal creates "useful and lasting dialogue when it inevitably happens again to another game studio," saying that all of these leaks should be treated with the same amount of importance and we should support them when it happens.
