A Possible Hint for the Gamescom 2025 Opening Night Live Showcase
Hollow Knight: Silksong might have landed a slot in the list of games to be announced in Gamescom 2025. Long-time Gamescom host, Geoff Keighley, posted a selfie himself wearing a detachable red nose typically worn by clowns, replicating a self-deprecating meme format frequently used by Silksong fans. The post reads, "First time?" with a clown emoji tacked on at the end and an invitation for people to tune in to Opening Night Live (ONL).
People might think that this is another sign that Silksong will once again be a no-show, but some fans have pointed out that Keighley’s post is a good sign that there will be an actual announcement from developer Team Cherry during the showcase. Last year, before the Gamescom 2024 ONL, Keighley gave Silksong fans a surprising, but much-needed heads up:
"Just to get this out of the way, no Silksong on Tuesday at ONL," he wrote. "@TeamCherryGames is still cooking."
There’s no heads up for this year’s post, which has led many to believe that Keighley simply wanted to make another cheeky callback—a wink and a nod to fans who have been clamoring for any sort of Silksong news since the game first got its release window.
Gamescom will be held in Cologne, Germany, and the Opening Night Live is set to commence on August 19 at 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET. If you want to check out the full streaming schedule and the other titles we expect to see during the event, check out our article below!
The Silksong Live Demo Is Here!

While no one can say for certain whether Silksong will show up on the ONL showcase, it will definitely be playable for the rest of the event from August 20-24 as Xbox will be hosting a live demo of the game. Some early attendees have even already uploaded videos and images of the Silksong booths on Twitter (X).
One of the videos was also uploaded to Reddit, where Silksong players congregated to share their thoughts and reactions. The discussion boards read like a collective sigh of relief from the fandom as players rejoiced, convinced that the long Silksong-less night might finally be over.
Silksong's Long History of Disappointments

However, there were just as many people who are still in a state of denial. Despite knowing about the Gamescom live demo, they’re not quite willing to place all their hopes on a release date announcement. Silksong "deniers" even claim that the footage is fake, and that the game will never see the light of day.
There are a few who also joked about a Deadpool fakeout, recalling the events of Summer Games Fest 2025 where Keighley read a note supposedly on behalf of Deadpool, saying, "You’re going to do me a solid and skip that Silksong trailer, so you can pimp my revolutionary VR game adventure that will shock the industry, probably."
It seems that the Silksong fans continue to be split on their expectations, but this has long become the standard response to anything Silksong-related. Since its first official announcement in 2019, Silksong has been in development purgatory for six years. It was only this year that Silksong made a brief, yet welcome appearance in the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct and finally received a release window for 2025.

Following the shocking announcement, Team Cherry went silent and hardly ever posted updates, forcing fans to look toward game showcases instead for Silksong news. But after SGF 2025, Silksong also failed to appear in the Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase.
Since then, fans have only grown weary of the developers. Many Hollow Knight players on Reddit said that they felt "disrespected" by Team Cherry, believing that the devs took advantage of their goodwill and gave them virtually nothing in exchange for their loyalty as Hollow Knight fans and consumers.
Thankfully, Gamescom Opening Night is just around the corner, and fans won’t have to wait too long to find out whether Team Cherry will finally announce a release date.
Hollow Knight: Silksong has been confirmed for release before the end of 2025 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. To stay up to date with the latest news on the Hollow Knight sequel, check out our article below!
