Silksong Side Hustle for Stardew Valley Creator
Eric Barone Included in the Additional Character Voices Credits

Hollow Knight: Silksong just launched, and while people are still rushing to defeat it, a few eagle-eyed players were surprised to see Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone, a.k.a. ConcernedApe, in the credits. As first spotted by The Verge, Barone’s name is included in the additional character voices section of the game.
According to the news website, they contacted the Head of Operations at ConcernedApe LLC, Cole Medeiros, to verify whether this is indeed Stardew Valley’s Eric Barone. They confirmed that this is the same Barone, but did not specify which character in Silksong he voiced.

Given that the game did not send out review codes and the fact that the characters in Silksong mumble and speak inaudibly, it likely will be a while before the community discovers exactly which character Barone voiced. The game crashing several digital storefronts right at release, likely did not help these efforts.
This delay did nothing to sour the experience, as Silksong sits with “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews on Steam. Here at Game8 as well, we thought that the long wait for the game was worth every second. Read more about our first impression of Silksong below!
Silksong and Stardew Valley Connection

Beyond both games being indie giants with a cult-like following (and deservedly so), Silksong and Stardew Valley share several similarities in other aspects. On top of both featuring Barone in their games, they also had the same person lead their marketing and PR.
Currently working as Silksong’s PR and Marketing handler, Matthew ‘Leth’ Griffin had a similar role when he was with Stardew Valley. His interactions with the community kept the Silksong hype train afloat, especially considering that he was the one who assured fans that Silksong is "real" after the game not having any substantial updates for years.

Both are also no strangers to long development periods, as Barone’s upcoming title, Haunted Chocolatier, is also starting to rack up a similar number of years since its first announcement. Haunted Chocolatier’s development has been ongoing for about four years since it was revealed in 2021, just 2 years shy of the ultimately 6-year wait for Silksong.
Barone has stated he hopes the game will be released within five years, although the statement may be difficult for some to believe, as Stardew Valley recently announced plans for its 1.7 update. With Silksong’s recent release, Stardew Valley receiving updates, and Haunted Chocolatier’s development, the indie community rejoices for years to come.
