Resident Evil Requiem Expectations, Lack of Demo, and Switch 2 Mouse Function
Will Not Suffer Monster Hunter Wilds-like Issues

Resident Evil Requiem (RE9) will not experience the same issues Monster Hunter Wilds had during its development and launch. During their latest Financial Results Conference Call on October 29, 2025, Capcom spoke about their expectations for the upcoming Resident Evil installment.
They stated, "Resident Evil Requiem differs from Monster Hunter Wilds in terms of gameplay, system architecture, and network features. At present, we do not anticipate similar risks. We are developing the game to provide a smooth gaming experience across a wide range of PC specifications."

While Monster Hunter Wilds did have a rocky start due to various PC performance issues and bugs, the monster action RPG still had over 1 million concurrent players during its opening week. Reviews for the game were mixed, with most complaints surrounding poor optimization, game-breaking bugs, and other inconveniences.
Given that RE9 is primarily a single-player title, Capcom has expressed high confidence that the upcoming horror sequel will launch without major technical setbacks. Additionally, the company expects the game to "exceed the initial sales performance" of its predecessor, Resident Evil Village.
No Demo and Leon Kennedy’s Return Debunked

Hype for RE9 continues to grow as the release date nears, and fans are eager to experience a snippet of its horror before it goes out. While Capcom has provided free public demos for previous titles like RE7: Biohazard, RE Village, and RE4 Remake, the demo for RE9 was initially exclusive to major conventions like Gamescom and PAX West, leaving fans hopeful for a wider public release closer to launch.
Speaking with Stevivor on November 17, RE9 Producer Masato Kumazawa confirmed that RE9 will not have a demo as the team wants to focus on finishing its development. "So, in terms of a demo play, we actually have no plan for one [for the general public] at the stage. None at all. We just want to focus on finishing off the game. Our development team is just doing its best to make sure that it’s creating the best quality game; to make sure that it’s a fine product," he said.

Furthermore, Kumazawa debunked the widespread rumors of the return of the iconic Leon S. Kennedy in RE9. The producer stated, "There has been a photo lately of Leon with an eye patch, and just basically saying there’s a DLC or a new costume for Leon — but just to make sure, these are all fake news."
Although both revelations may disappoint parts of the community, Capcom could pull another surprise, considering they did so with RE9’s announcement during Summer Game Fest 2025. Regardless, fans can now pre-order RE9 ahead of its release, with other promotions such as an RE9 Fortnite skin, Switch 2 Pro Controller, and Amiibo coming soon.
Switch 2 Mouse Controls Scrapped As It Confused and Convoluted Gameplay

As mentioned above, Capcom is fully integrating RE9 with Nintendo Switch 2, releasing an exclusive RE9-designed Switch 2 Pro Controller and the series’ very first Amiibo with Grace Ascroft. The developers also attempted to integrate the Switch 2’s mouse functionality, but they abandoned the effort, noting that it "confused and convoluted the gameplay."
As revealed during an interview with Press Start Australia on November 15, Kumazawa and his team chose to use gyro instead of the Switch 2’s mouse controls. "Actually, we tried really hard to implement mouse controls for Nintendo Switch 2. When we did put it in, it confused and convoluted the gameplay and became too complicated. So actually, we are using gyro instead," he stated.

In the same interview, Kumazawa mentioned that RE9 still has some remnants of its multiplayer elements from its original concept. He also noted the game will focus heavily on horror compared to previous titles in the series that were "too action-heavy," and will be both enjoyed by newcomers and long-time fans alike.
Resident Evil Requiem is set to release on February 27, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. To stay up to date with the latest information about the game, check out our article below!
