Possibly Teased by PlayStation During 30th Anniversary Celebration
In a PlayStation Blog post celebrating the console's 30th anniversary, a new PS5 design—subtly hidden in an image shared on the website—was speculated to be linked to the much-rumored PS5 Pro. The illustration of this speculated new console, as spotted by fans, bore resemblances to alleged leaked images of the PS5 Pro that have surfaced recently on the internet.
Following this discovery, there has been growing speculation that Sony plans to unveil the PS5 Pro soon. While the company hasn’t officially confirmed a State of Play event set for the near future, rumors are swirling that the much-rumored console will be revealed alongside a major event later this month, or possibly, following more recent announcements, at the upcoming PlayStation 5 Technical Presentation.
PS5 Pro Might Be Coming In Late 2024
Developers present during Gamescom 2024 reportedly discussed the PS5 Pro, claiming that some of them have delayed their game releases to align with the rumored console's launch window. A developer had reportedly shared that they "had received the specs for the PS5 Pro and were confident that Unreal Engine 5 would perform significantly better on the new hardware compared to the regular PlayStation 5," as reported by Wccftech.
Additionally, industry analyst William R. Aguilar, taking to Twitter (X) back in July, had forecasted that the PS5 Pro is likely to be announced later this year. "PlayStation Showcases each year are staggered to be in EITHER Late May/Early June OR in September," Aguilar said. "This is to fulfill their fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders in outlining the products that will be sold in Q3/Holiday Season."
The analyst additionally remarked in his thread, "PlayStation has to announce the PS5 Pro and they cannot do that too early in the year from its release because it would cannibalize the sales of the PS5. So, the best thing to do is to announce it later in the year right before it goes on the market to be sold in Q3/Holiday."
Developers Were Reportedly Told to Ready Their Games for PS5 Pro
Back in April, The Verge had reported that developers were told to ensure their games were compatible with the rumored PS5 Pro. Additionally, the news site claimed it had received the full specification list of the console, indicating that there is added emphasis on accelerated ray tracing. According to the report, the PS5 Pro's GPU is expected to be "45% faster" than the standard PS5. Additionally, it's claimed that the PS5 Pro's system memory expands to "576GB/s."
PS5 Pro Price Projected at $600
In addition to the report regarding the full specification list, it's claimed that the PS5 Pro is targeting 60fps at 4K resolution, along with a "performance mode" targeting 8K resolution. With the hefty improvements, industry analyst Dr. Serkan Toto, in a statement to IGN, forecasted that the price of the PS5 Pro could range between $600 to $650 USD.
