Sony has just announced their new update and it includes integrating Discord to PS5. Read on to learn more about the patch update.
PS5 Players Can Now Join Discord Voice Chat Directly from Their Console
Enhanced Integration with Discord
In a major update for PlayStation 5 (PS5) users, Sony announced yesterday that players will soon be able to join Discord voice chat directly from their console. This development marks a significant enhancement in the integration between PlayStation and Discord, a popular communication platform for gamers.
The collaboration between PlayStation and Discord has been evolving over recent years, with both companies working together to provide seamless communication options for players. Since the initial introduction of Discord voice chat on PS5, players have used this feature more than 290 million times. This statistic highlights the popularity and importance of voice communication in enhancing the gaming experience. Notably, this integration comes after the removal of Twitter (X) integration from PS5 last November, indicating a shift towards more robust and dedicated gaming communication platforms.
Previously, PS5 players had to rely on the Discord PC or mobile apps to initiate voice chats, but the new update eliminates this step. Players can now directly join Discord voice chats from their PS5 console, streamlining the process and making it more convenient to connect with friends and gaming communities.
Profile Sharing Feature
In addition to the Discord integration, Sony is also rolling out a new profile-sharing feature starting next week. This will allow players to share their PlayStation Network profile on any messaging or social app. To do this, users can select "Share Profile" from the PlayStation App or directly from the PS5 console, generating a shareable link or QR code. Recipients can then add the player as a friend on PlayStation Network once they sign in.
These updates reflect Sony’s commitment to enhancing social connectivity for PS5 players. By making it easier to join Discord voice chats and share profiles, Sony aims to foster a more interconnected gaming community. These features are designed to help players find and connect with new friends and communities, whether through playing games together on PS5 or engaging in crossplay games across different platforms.
Sony’s continuous efforts to improve the PS5 experience demonstrate their dedication to listening to the gaming community and providing features that enhance the overall gaming experience.
Joining Discord Voice Chat on PS5
To use this new feature, players need to follow a few simple steps:
⚫︎ Access the Discord Tab: In the Game Base within the PS5 Control Center, select the Discord tab.
⚫︎ Choose a Server or DM Group: Select the Discord server or direct message (DM) group you want to join.
⚫︎ Select a Voice Channel: Choose your preferred voice channel. Detailed information about the channel, including who is currently chatting, will be displayed.
⚫︎ Receive Notifications: When another Discord user calls you, a notification will appear on your PS5 console, allowing you to join the conversation immediately.
This update aims to make it easier for gamers to hop into Discord conversations without leaving their gaming session. The rollout will occur gradually over the coming weeks, beginning with players in Japan and Asia, followed by Europe, Australia/New Zealand, the Middle East, and finally the Americas.
Necessary Updates and Account Linking
To take advantage of this feature, PS5 users must ensure their console is updated to the latest system software. Additionally, accounts for PlayStation Network and Discord must be linked. For those who haven’t linked their accounts yet, the process is straightforward:
⚫︎ Go to Account Management: On your PS5 console or via the PlayStation Network online.
⚫︎ Select Linked Services: Under PlayStation Network.
⚫︎ Link Discord: Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the linking process.

Features for Child Accounts
Sony has also announced new enhancements for PS5 child accounts, allowing younger players to link and add third-party services and apps to their PlayStation Network accounts. This update enables features such as Discord voice chat that’s explained above, music streaming via Apple Music and Spotify, and broadcasting gameplay through YouTube and Twitch.
To ensure a safe and controlled environment, new parental controls have been introduced. These controls notify parents and guardians of account links with third-party services and allow them to manage these connections. Availability of these features may vary depending on age, parental control settings, and country/region.
Device Updates
Additionally, Sony has rolled out updates for the PULSE Elite wireless headset, PULSE Explore wireless earbuds, and PlayStation Link USB adapter. Key improvements include:
⚫︎ Enhanced PlayStation Link connection stability.
⚫︎ Fix for the PULSE Elite headset power-off issue when using the audio input jack.
⚫︎ Reduced brightness of the status indicator on the PULSE Elite headset.
⚫︎ Improved system software performance and stability.
⚫︎ Enhanced messages and usability on various screens.
⚫︎ These updates aim to provide a better and more secure experience for all PS5 users.
