Palworld Cost One Billion Yen to Make Claims CEO

Pocket Pair CEO Takuro Mizobe shared information about the budget of Palworld on a Japanese blog site. Read here to learn more about this along with key details on the game’s creation.

Palworld Creator Did Not Manage Budget

Takuro Mizobe, recently shared on "Note," a popular Japanese blog site, that the development of Palworld cost about one billion yen, roughly equivalent to $6.75 million.

In a bold move, Mizobe first created event trailers for Palworld as a preliminary step to gauge player reactions. His reasoning behind this was that – if the response was bad, then the "game wasn't worth the budget to make in the first place."

Development soon began after the positive feedback gamers had for the trailers. Mizobe decided that "it would be better to make it well and spend a lot of money on it."

Initially, Palworld was slated for completion within a year, reflecting Mizobe's reluctance to create a major title in the first place, citing that Pocketpair was "not suited to making large titles." However, plans shifted as the game's development exceeded expectations, revealing that “there was not enough manpower, money, or development time."

Mizobe explained that as the bank account approached zero balance, he decided to borrow money until Palworld was "in a state where it can be put out into the world."

Palworld was Supposed to Only Have 25 Pals

Initially planned to feature only 25 Pals, the game's scope expanded in response to the positive feedback. Mizobe not only increased the number of Pals but also increased the workforce by hiring over 40 people to work on Palworld. This decision was driven by the realization that the game had transformed into a "large-scale development project that required careful planning."

As Palworld currently holds the top spot on Steam and has achieved the remarkable feat of selling 7 million copies in just 5 days, it's evident that Mizobe's strategy has proven highly successful.

Furthermore, Palworld has not only broken Steam records but has also surpassed the concurrent player counts of well-known titles such as Baldur's Gate 3, Elden Ring, and Cyberpunk 2077. Read the article below to learn more.
