Japan Restricts Z-Rated Games
The N64 18+ App for the Nintendo Switch Online + Additional Pack is going to be released only in Japan on November 30, 2023. This was due to the simultaneous release of GoldenEye 007 and Jet Force Gemini. While both shooters are rated “T” in America, the games are listed with a “Z” rating in Japan.
Japan's government rating board, The Computer Entertainment Rating Organization (CERO), classifies the Z
rating as intended for mature audiences aged 18 and above and prohibits the sale of Z-rated games to anyone under 18. This restriction and compliance with the Japanese government led to the app's creation, which requires the games to be separated from other titles and an age verification before purchase. Japan should expect more Z-rated N64 titles coming in the future.
Jet Force Gemini is anticipated to be released in the West in December, bringing the total number of N64 games that can be downloaded through the expansion pack to 27, including titles like Super Mario 64 and Pokemon Stadium.
GoldenEye 007
GoldenEye 007 is a classic N64 first-person shooter game developed by Rare Studios, which was based on the James Bond movie from 1995 with the same name. As Agent 007, the player's task is to stop a criminal syndicate from utilizing a satellite weapon. This game is renowned for revolutionizing the genre of first-person shooters with its engaging gameplay and memorable multiplayer mode.
For those who have a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription, the game is currently available with new features like online multiplayer and widescreen mode.
Jet Force Gemini
Jet Force Gemini is a third-person shooter developed and published by Rare for the Nintendo 64. The game centers on an interstellar team of elite fighters who go on an epic adventure across the universe to find and defeat the evil dictator Mizar.
The underrated gem is anticipated to be released in the West in December, bringing the total number of N64 games that can be downloaded through the expansion pack to 27, including titles like Super Mario 64 and Pokemon Stadium.
