AAA Action Game Confirmed for PS5, Xbox Series, and Steam
The Untitled John Wick Game has been announced for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Steam by Lionsgate and Saber Interactive, revealed during Sony’s State of Play Showcase on February 12 alongside a reveal trailer.
As unveiled in the trailer, the upcoming John Wick game will feature an original narrative set years before the Impossible Task, the mission that allowed John Wick to earn his freedom from the assassin world before the first film. The story expands the timeline to showcase the period when he was still active, introducing both familiar characters from the movies and new ones developed for the game.
The title is being developed as a single-player, third-person action game aimed at mature audiences, featuring John Wick’s signature gun-fu fighting style, which seamlessly blends martial arts with close-quarters gunplay. It will also include "intense" driving sequences and cinematic storytelling, incorporating camerawork and environments that reflect the visual style for which the John Wick films are known.
Jenefer Brown, President of Global Products & Experiences at Lionsgate, said the goal is "to develop a game that captures the unparalleled action, brand-defining fight choreography, immersive world-building, and authenticity of the films."
Lionsgate, Saber Interactive, and franchise director Chad Stahelski are collaborating on development, with star Keanu Reeves involved in production. Reeves is set to reprise John Wick’s likeness and voice for the game.
It was previously confirmed in January by Lionsgate chairman Adam Fogelson in an earnings call that a AAA John Wick game was in development. This isn’t the first time John Wick has made its way into gaming, as John Wick Hex, a tactical RPG, launched in 2019 for PC and Mac before later arriving on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. However, the title was delisted from digital storefronts last year.
While the reveal confirmed platforms, the project has yet to receive an official title or release date at the time of writing. "I can’t wait for fans to step into the shoes of John Wick and explore the multi-dimensional world of The High Table," Brown said.
