New Honkai Game 'Nexus Anima' is an Open World Auto Battler

Image

Honkai: Nexus Anima’s website goes live, and more information about this brand-new autobattler by HoYoverse has been revealed. Read on to learn more about the game’s features and its upcoming closed beta test.

Honkai: Nexus Anima Website Goes Live

Game Features Revealed

After months of speculation, HoYoverse finally revealed more information about Honkai Nexus Anima (HNA) by launching its official website. Honkai: Nexus Anima was first teased during Honkai Star Rail’s Concert livestream on May 4, and most fans speculated the game to be Pokémon-like based on the 20-second teaser presented.

With its website going live, it was revealed that the game will be an auto-battler, where players strategically place characters in a grid-like field and automate battles against their foes. Popular titles in this genre include Teamfight Tactics, Auto Chess, Despot’s Games, and Dota Underlords.

Beyond the main gameplay, players will be able to explore a "big world" along with their companions, known as "Anima," which are also the units used for the auto-battler system.

In-Game Footage Showcased Auto-Battler Gameplay, Exploration, Mini-Games, and More

Following the official website going live, HNA’s official Twitter (X) posted a 4-minute video of in-game footage that featured the game’s auto-battler gameplay, open world exploration, mini-games, and much more.

The game looks to follow Genshin Impact’s approach to world exploration, allowing players to freely traverse areas on foot or glide in the air using their Anima. However, the game also features rideable Animas that can fly through the air or gallop around the streets. It is unclear how vast Honkai: Nexus Anima’s world is since the video only featured a particular beachfront area throughout.

Players can interact with various characters in the game and engage in unique mini-games using their Animas. These mini-games range from Anima racing events to Animas shooting down balloons.

There is also character customization, allowing players to change their physical appearance, including hairstyle, hair color, eyes, clothes, and more. Based on the video, other players can join the same world and socialize with their characters.

For its gameplay, it follows similar characteristics of popular auto-battlers, where players build their team composition based on the synergies of their Animas traits. They can also choose and receive power-ups on specific rounds or levels that give them additional effects and advantages.

HoYoverse has yet to provide specifics regarding its gameplay, but the company has held an auto-battlers event in Genshin Impact called "Battle of Imagined Arrays." It would be interesting to see how the gameplay fares compared to other fan-favorite auto-battlers and how it ties in with the rest of the game.

Animas Overview

Image

The website gave overviews of the several Animas that players will encounter in the game. Each Anima is categorized by its Aspect (Satiation, Dark, Love, War, etc.) and Trait (Gladiator, Striker, Mastermind, etc.). A brief description of the Animas was also provided, including its height and energy.

Animas previewed include Puddlipup, a soft pudding-pup who was featured in the game’s first teaser, Taileep, a whimsical and mischievous feline, Bunmareen, a luminescent creature that resides on shores, and much more.

So far, 32 Animas have been revealed, while 34 more silhouettes are shown in the Anima roster.

Sovereigns, Novarchs, and Other Characters

Image

HNA features a wide array of cast, including characters from other HoYoverse games. These characters are categorized into three: Sovereigns, Novarchs, and Others.

Sovereigns are described as "the owners of the Aspects of the Old World" who wield power and authority in the mortal world. Meanwhile, Novarchs are "owners of the Aspects of the New World," each ruling one of the 81 planes. One of the Novarchs is Blade, who is also a popular character in Honkai Star Rail.

Finally, Others are characters that players will encounter throughout their journey. These include Nanafey, Hua, and Honkai Impact 3rd’s Kiana. Some of these characters were already featured in the game’s first teaser, but the website provided additional information about them.
