Mortal Kombat 2 Wraps Up Filming in Australia
Karl Urban to Play as Johnny Cage
Round 2, fight! Actor Karl Urban has just wrapped up filming for the Mortal Kombat sequel over at the Gold Coast of Australia. Posting on Instagram, the New Zealand actor thanked the cast and crew for their hard work in making Mortal Kombat 2 a reality.
"Massive thanks to our incredible crew, cast, and phenomenal stunt team," Urban said in his post. "Hands down the most action-packed fun I’ve ever had on a film! Can’t wait for y’all to see it."
Although Urban’s scenes were wrapped up already, this doesn’t mean that the movie’s production is finished in its entirety. Reshoots and B-roll scenes could still be on the docket, which is likely why no release date has been officially announced yet.
A Sneak Peak at Mortal Kombat 2
While Mortal Kombat 2’s plot details remain under wraps, it’s been confirmed that much of the cast from the first movie will be making a return for the sequel, including Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade and Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi – or ‘Scorpion’ for the MK fans.
Other returning cast members include Josh Lawson as Kano, Max Huang as Kung Lao, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han (Sub-Zero), Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, and Chin Han as the illustrious soul-cerer himself, Shang Tsung.
Lewis Tan will also be returning for the sequel as Cole Young, an original character who served as the protagonist of the first film. Fan reception to Tan’s performance was lukewarm at best, with many agreeing that Cole Young was uninspired and boring.
Director Simon McQuoid will be helming the sequel as he did the first one, although other returning crew members remain unidentified. New faces will also be joining the roster, however, as, in addition to Urban’s Johnny Cage, Uncharted movie star Tatiana Gabrielle will be playing Jade – a fan favorite character who was absent from the first movie.
