Mortal Kombat 1’s Homelander Will Not Be Voiced by Antony Starr

Fans Are Disappointed At The News

From the comments of his Instagram account, Antony Starr answers a fan’s question about him voicing Homelander for Mortal Kombat 1 with a succinct "nope."

Fans were very excited when Mortal Kombat 1 announced its upcoming DLC characters, which included Homelander. Homelander, played by Starr, is an antagonist of the satirical superhero series "The Boys." Many praise Starr for his performance as the villain and attribute the success of the show to him. The success of the series spawned a spin-off show titled "GenV," in which Homelander appears in a cameo.

He posted behind-the-scenes footage of his presence in the show on his Instagram account on November 12, 2023. This led to a curious fan in the comments asking the actor whether he’ll be voicing the character in Mortal Kombat 1. Starr replied with a nonchalant "nope."

Speculations Surrounding Antony Starr

This is a big departure from how the Mortal Kombat series usually goes out of its way to include or pay homage to the original characters. Recently, the latest playable character to be released for the game, Omni-Man, is voiced by famous actor and known VA talent J.K. Simmons. Simmons voiced the original Omni-Man from the "Invincible" adult animated superhero series, and so fans automatically assumed the same would be the case for Homelander and Starr.

Some have broken out and theorized that Starr isn’t telling the truth, and that he’s channeling the character by lying to the fans. Some say he might not be able to speak on the matter potentially due to signing NDAs. Some also guess that maybe the actor just had enough of the constant questions and gave an answer to cease them.

Fans also point out that Starr actually won’t be a stranger to voicing the character in video games, as he reprised the role for a collaboration with Call of Duty back in July. As he’s ventured into voice acting in games before, fans are still suspicious and believe that he’ll still be invited for Mortal Kombat 1.

Only time will tell whether Starr was telling the truth, and we all eagerly await for when more news of Homelander will arrive for Mortal Kombat 1.
