Like a Dragon’s casting call for the next “Minato Girl” just announced the top ten finalists, and the winner will be put into the game as a character! Read on to learn more about this audition and what other rewards the chosen Minato girl receives.
The “Minato-style Girl” Will Appear In Game
10 Finalists Were Chosen
SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku of Like a Dragon/Yakuza fame have announced the ten finalists of their "Minato Girls Audition," all of whom have a chance to appear as a character in the upcoming Like a Dragon/Yakuza game title, which details still remain a mystery. The finals will be broadcasted live on the Ryu Ga Gotoku official YouTube channel on July 16, 20:00 JST / 07:00 EDT / 04:00 PDT.
The audition was open to all interested applicants above the age of 20 and are currently residing in Japan who wish to appear as a "Minato Ward Girl" or "Minato-style girl" in the latest installment of Like a Dragon. The chosen finalist (or finalists, as they did not specify yet how many will be chosen) will be able to appear in the upcoming title in CG and in live-action, as well as take part in promotions concerning the game.
So what is a "Minato-style girl"? For writer Yusuke Takahashi on 4gamer, he said that he "imagined a classy but not strict, neat, and lovely woman seen in stylish restaurants and bars around the Minato Ward." The Minato ward area of Tokyo is home to many affluent residents, much like California’s own Beverly Hills or Old Palo Alto, thus women who exude this Minato-style aura must be rather classy and elegant.
Firstly, there was a document screening on the official site that interested participants were required to fill out. Those who passed the initial screening were then invited to the second screening, which included an interview. The on-site casting call was held in SEGA’s headquarters in Tokyo, and welcomed applicants from all walks of life, from experienced models, cosplayers, and idols to amateur entrants like regular office workers who simply liked the series.
Chief producer Hiroyuki Sakamoto, who was one of the judges, noticed the diverse lineup, and shared his confidence and enthusiasm with the auditions. "Perhaps it was the result of the excitement of the last live cabaret girl audition, we received entries from various industry genres, and I feel that there is a ripple effect." Producer Ryosuke Horii chimed in with a smile, ""I was glad that many of the people who applied without knowing what kind of role they would play had a love for the series and a passion to work with us."
Next Title Still A “Surprise”
Regarding the next installment, Ryu Ga Gotoku is still keeping things under wraps, only revealing in the most recent Anime Expo that "We can’t tell you what kind of game it is, but I will tell you, you’ll be surprised."
